Thanks you very much docm.

Tuesday 9th October 2007, not long to wait.

The encounter was an absolute stunner & now that information has been evaluated to a point
to generate
NINE papers in Science, goes to show what New Horizons achieved.

As I said before in the New Horizons thread, the Jupiter encounter was a mission in itself.

docm has just confirmed that statement.

Hi alokmohan. Yes very true indeed. Because of Jupiter's enormous gravity well,
Jupiter is really a gate way to the far outer solar system, hence the relatively large
number of encounters.

Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, Voyager 2, Ulysses, Galileo, Cassini & New Horizons.

Think I've got that right.

Cannot wait to see the Io stuff. With the evaluations I have carried out myself, I have
already seen a few things, such as the North to South elongation of the Pele ejecta ring continuing,
Tvashtar plume was continuing to rise, Boosaule Mons was seen in profile, is now the tallest
named mountain in the solar system that is not on Mars, so called atmosphere is very
patchy, concentrating around the volcanoes.

Lets see what the official release says .

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. It was extremely large with respect to the overall size of Io and crescent shaped. It seemed unbelievable that something that big had not been visible before". Linda Morabito on discovering that the Jupiter moon Io was volcanically active. Has anyone bothered to calculate how many of these spacecraft can continue to gain energy at the expense of Jupiter before it falls near Earth's orbit and casts us out of the solar system? Yeah, I know it is a lot, but have they ACTUALLY done the calculation? I bet not. Rise up and protest these hooligans who would endanger our lives, without knowing exactly how far they can go!!

IIRC, every flyby slows Jupiter like a trillionth of an inch in it's orbit.

The planet dissolving chaos cloud is far mor lethal.

So is the Photon Belt.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!
