Thanks you very much docm.<br /><br />Tuesday 9th October 2007, not long to wait. <br /><br />The encounter was an absolute stunner & now that information has been evaluated to a point<br />to generate <br />NINE papers in Science, goes to show what New Horizons achieved.<br /><br />As I said before in the New Horizons thread, the Jupiter encounter was a mission in itself.<br /><br />docm has just confirmed that statement.<br /><br />Hi alokmohan. Yes very true indeed. Because of Jupiter's enormous gravity well,<br />Jupiter is really a gate way to the far outer solar system, hence the relatively large <br />number of encounters.<br /><br />Pioneer 10, Pioneer 11, Voyager 1, Voyager 2, Ulysses, Galileo, Cassini & New Horizons.<br /><br />Think I've got that right.<br /><br />Cannot wait to see the Io stuff. Has anyone bothered to calculate how many of these spacecraft can continue to gain energy at the expense of Jupiter before it falls near Earth's orbit and casts us out of the solar system? Yeah, I know it is a lot, but have they ACTUALLY done the calculation? I bet not.
