If a planet does generate gravity then what does?

Suppose for a minute that there was not a single atom in the Universe, nor any planets, suns not one celestial object in space. What generates gravity?

Since mass causes gravity, a Universe with no mass would have no need for gravity.

The sentence structure seems to suggest that you mean "does no" rather than "does"?

Your question as written is quite confusing, you might want to slow down and take another wack at it.

If you think of space of a lot of interesting lines like a web, any thing with mass would make an indent or weigh down that web. if any smaller object entered the indent it would be pulled in. a great example of this is one of those thing in museums where you drop a penny or any coin and it will spiral around until it fall in to the hole, which is a good example of a black hole. the more density an object has, the more gravitational pull it has.
