About 5 years ago in Concord, CA. I was standing outside on the sidewalks when I heard this loud bang. I looked to my left and about 6 inches away from me was this odd looking green rock lying next to me. It took a 5x2 inch chunk out of the sidewalk and was warm to the touch. I have searched through hundreds of pictures on the net of meteorites - needless to say, I have not found anything that resembles this rock.

Not the best photos, but it's was I had to work with.

Thank you in advance.

Well, it's most certainly not a meteorite.

The color suggests something with a lot of copper, or maybe something ejected from a wood chipper.

Any manufacturing facilities nearby?

Like Wayne, to me it also looks something like Cuprite or Malachite, a Copper Ore.

Check to see if any blasting was going on within a 2 mile radius of you. A license is required for blasting, so there should be records.
