http://www.nasa.gov : New Russian Resupply Vehicle Docks to Station
The 40th ISS Progress resupply vehicle docked to the Pirs docking compartment of the International Space Station at 12:36 p.m. EDT Saturday.

Progress 40 brings to the orbiting complex 1,918 pounds of propellant, 1,100 pounds of oxygen, 498 pounds of water and 2,804 pounds of food, spare parts, experiment hardware and other supplies for the station’s six crew members.

After conducting leak checks at the docking interface and opening the hatch to the resupply vehicle, the crew members will begin the long process of unloading the cargo. Once emptied, Progress 40 will be filled with trash and station discards and deorbited to burn in the Earth’s atmosphere like its predecessors.

The ISS Progress 40 launched at 11:11 a.m. Wednesday from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

The resupply vehicle that previously occupied the Pirs docking compartment, ISS Progress 37, undocked from the station on Oct. 25. It will spend three weeks orbiting a safe distance from the station to enable Russian engineers to conduct technology experiments before being deorbited and sent to a fiery demise in the Earth’s atmosphere Nov. 15.

:: 30.10.2010

Today, on Oct. 30, Russian cargo vehicle Progress M-08M successfully docked with the International Space Station.
ISS/Progress contact occurred at 20: 35:43 Moscow time. The vehicle is now attached to Pirs modulе.
The automatic rendezvous sequence performed initially was interrupted by Flight Director decision to switch to manual mode at range of 194 m. Controlled by ISS-25 flight engineer Alexander Kaleri, the vehicle docked to the station smoothly.
Progress M-08M delivered about 2.5 t of cargo to the station, including propellant, food and water, personal crew parcels, scientific hardware for many Russian experiments.

www.spaceflightnow.com : Cosmonaut flies resupply ship to space station docking
BY JUSTIN RAY

For the 40th time in the past decade, a Russian cargo freighter has arrived at the International Space Station carrying vital supplies to feed the needs of the orbiting laboratory and its resident crews. But this docking required the intervention by one of the most experienced cosmonauts.

The Progress M-08M spacecraft, flying on autopilot, performed a flawless rendezvous with the space station after a three-day journey from the Baikonur Cosmodrome launch pad, but some yet-unspecified problem at the last minute prompted cosmonaut Alexander Kaleri to take over manual control and guide the vehicle to docking.

The successful linkup to the Pirs docking compartment came at 12:36 p.m. EDT (1636 GMT) while soaring 220 miles over western Kazakhstan.

Hooks and latches were engaged a few minutes later to firmly secure the 24-foot-long craft to the station.

The Expedition 25 crew of commander Doug Wheelock, fellow NASA astronauts Shannon Walker and Scott Kelly, and Russian cosmonauts Fyodor Yurchikhin, Oleg Skripochka and Kaleri plan to open hatches and enter the Progress later today.

A new Russian cargo ship arrived at the International Space Station today to deliver tons of food and supplies – including the treat of fresh fruit – to the orbiting lab's crew just in time for Halloween.

While fruits and vegetables may not sound like a traditional Halloween treat, any fresh foods are a treasure for astronauts serving a months-long mission on the space station.

Fresh produce is typically packed along with the tons of supplies delivered on each Russian cargo ship that visits the space station, so the fruit on the new cargo ship only happens to be a timely treat.

www.federalspace.ru : RSC-Energia Completed Investigation of the Progress M-08M Docking Failure
:: 16.11.2010

RSC-Energia has completed investigation of the Progress M-08M docking failure which occurred on Oct. 30, when the cargo vehicle was approaching the International Space Station, RSC-Energia PAO reported.
The Investigation Commission detected that disturbances in the Kurs RF docking support system had been caused by non-compliance of the Kurs rendezvous control antennae connection on the Pirs module with high-frequency link standards. The non-compliance was first detected in the 4-port configuration of the ISS RS.
The Commission, together with the ISS crew, has proposed recommendations for further automatic docking sequences of Soyuzes and Progresses, including MCC-M ops operations and upgrades of the Zvezda harness in order to maintain proper switching of the Kurs antennae wrt a relevant docking port.
The Kurs equipment installed on the ISS is accepted for further operations.
