A "brick" object was discovered on Mars,
with size about 120x120x20 mm.

What are the chances that such an object was formed by coincidence? They are far less than for 10 lottery drawings in a row, to produce the same numbers.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PROOF:

1. Chances of a naturally produced rock of about 10x10x3 mm being a rectungular shape, are less than 1/10, we know it from observtions on the Earth and of Mars pictures.
It is a rule of statistical physics, that
p(V2) = p(V1)**(V2/V1)

in out case V2/V1= (120*120*20)/(10*10*3) = 956
p(V2)=<1.0e-956

Let us say that every pixel on the 1000000 of Mars pictures could be a rock; it gives N=1.0e+12 rocks

Expected number of rectangular rocks of volume V2 then would be N*p(V2) = 1.0e-944

What it means is that if it were a coincidentally formed rock, to get the picture of a brick that we have, we would need to photograph Mars about <google in power ten /> years in a row, which is still about <google in power ten> times longer than our universe have existed
---------------------------------------------------------------------
http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/spirit/pancam/2005-02-14/2P161074019EFFA300P2519L7M1.JPG

Brick is on the upper left

es

That "rock" is too small for a brick, as you even admit by your dimensions. It's more like a deck of cards. You can even see that the card on top is slightly ajar by a couple of pixels.

Thus, we have PROOF OF CARD-PLAYING MARTIAN CIVILIZATION !

What's the chances of finding a deck of playing card on Mars? I will leave the math up to you, but conjecture that the chances a deck of cards would be naturally produced are even less than an undersized brick, thus proving that a deck of cards is a more likely proof of Martian life!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really, really, really miss the "first unread post" function.

Congratulations!

You have improved on the perfect proof!!!!

PS.
On Mars, they could be six times smaller than we are.

e s

Could be a pack of cigarettes, probably Marlboro Martian Menthols.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

That’s it, they used up all the oxygen smoking cigs whilst playing cards. The resulting smoky co2 atmosphere made it impossible to breath and they all died out.

Sorted, next mystery please.
Marlboro 9 about 11 times shorter than 101 millimeters.
Common salt forms crystals this size and shape, plus, I think, some other minerals. Neil

Isn't there a cliff by the sea somewhere in Great Britain where all the rocks are hexagons? Cripes, I can't clearly remember so much stuff anymore, it's really annoying

What was I posting about?...................

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

--Common salt forms crystals this size and shape--

It does not. 100 mm = 10 cm, which is about the width of your hand

--- there a cliff by the sea somewhere in Great Britain where all the rocks are hexagons? ---

Those are not random rocks, they are produced when magma is being cooled; and there is a lot of them, since the conditions where for their forming.

ES
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but how exactly do you know what all the sides of that rock look like? Even the sides shown don't appear to be at 90 degree angles so really all you have is a neat little rock.

--- how exactly do you know what all the sides of that rock look like? ---

I have a stereo image of it, where 9 right angles are obvious.

This is a feature that we can key on, unless you would claim, that chances of randomly selected rock of size about 10x10x3 mm be like that are more than 1/10.

There is so much cushion built in in the calculation, that you can not break it: to have randomly created rock being like this is nothing short of miracle - the chances are so astronomically low

es
Really, you think there would be more of these things scattered around the same area, rather than just the one.

It's not a brick buddy, it's just a rock

That pic is an obvious hoax.
proof 1 ; No poker chips near the cards
proof 2 ; No beer bottles

--- you think there would be more of these things scattered around the same area, rather than just the one --

Did not I have told you, that the second one was discovered same day by the same rover?

It is childish to try to wish out the reality: no chance that it is a natural rock whatsoever.

Oops, I dropped my cube of tofu out in the desert of AZ while picnicking. This proves this is all an elaborate hoax!

"Those are not random rocks, they are produced when magma is being cooled; and there is a lot of them, since the conditions where [sic] for their forming."

So, the rocks in Great Britain, although hexagonically shaped, were naturally formed, they are not random. But what possibile evidence do you have that this one rock was also not random but naturally formed. You have none. I certainly hope that we find evidence of past or present life on Mars, but a rectangular rock aint it. I agree with Steve on this one, please go rant in SETI.

One regular looking rock and you have PROOF of martian civilisation. Right..... Take it to the mark carey forum where they will swallow this sort of thing.

Jon

Whether we become a multi-planet species with unlimited horizons, or are forever confined to Earth will be decided in the twenty-first century amid the vast plains, rugged canyons and lofty mountains of Mars Arthur Clarke

You can't prove anything, only disprove it. What you’re really shouting about is evidence, if you can call it that
