There seems to be no shortage of NASA bashing on this BBC feedback site.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/talking_point/4679815.stm

Although some remarks IMHO, might be close to the truth, there's a couple of posters there who are rather nasty in their remarks!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

D1CKHEADS!!!!

The problem with free speech is that sometimes there are consequences and a toll to pay. Some of these ignorant twits are probably sulking because the Shuttle doesn't have warp drive, phasers or a dematerialisation/chameleon circuit (etc. whatever...)

We are still in pioneering times for space. There are years of risks and hard slog ahead of us. But I'm sure the journey will be almost as interesting as the destinations...

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

The worst comment is when folks complain about poverty. I bet they spend £1000s a year on useless junk in their own life.

And what about the GLOBAL poverty that is destined to happen if we don't get off world resources?
It is a liberal place the BBC so that makes sense they put that in there.

Ok, 'mostly' may have been laying it on a bit thick. I read the acticle and that was the feeling I got.

I re-visited the webpage and done a quick count, I get 10 positive, 12 negative and two in-betweens.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

I DID read it!! But I'd accuse the BBC in a heartbeat of editing any of their media to marginalise ventures like space. Their coverage of the American elections last year was clearly balanced against the Republicans.

They're even instructing their reporters to refrain from using the term "Terrorist" and to substitute it with more politically correct terms.

I guess what I'm really saying is that the vociferousness of anti-space comments never ceases to amaze me. That's because the people who hate space make more of an effort to run it down than space lovers in Britain take to run it up.

Negativity is easy.

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

So the BBC gave time to those critics of the republican administration. I bet that there are far more critics of the bush administration than there are proponents.

When did they tell their reporters to refrain from using the term terrorist?

I think the reason there are so many anti-space comments are:

It is wildy known that the current manned space program is a waste of money.

People are ignorant about space. This has not been helped by the shuttle and ISS achieving nothing worth the 200+billion that has been spent.

People mistake the shuttle as the only way to get into space. I bet that if you asked any of the anti-space lobby if they knew about the soyuz programme they would draw a blank.

I agree the mass public seems ignorant of really what's going on in space exploration now, the reasons for doing things and the benefits to be gained. NASA, ESA, RSA press offices could do more here for media relations.

People think huge sums of government money is spent of space exploration, but in relation to the typical total budgets of space-faring nations the amount spent of space is VERY, VERY small!! It is not a waste, it is an investment. With out investment you cannot help anyone not even those in poverty!!

I'm british and along with many other british civilians support and commend the work NASA, ESA, RSA etc are doing today!

I read it as more positive than anything US normally gets on the BBC, a few US posters coming up with the same old, same old, and the BBC's main catchment readership of liberal "let's explore trees, not space" in force.

File in the trash bin.

File in the trash bin.

Why? It's probably representative of the replieys they recived. Thats what the public thinks. If you want British participation in the ISS and Aurora that's what we're up against. It sux but there it is.

Time for some education of the public, and NSF is a wicked start
