A dense cluster of stars called Westerlund I has been theorized capable of producing a medium-sized black hole through the repeated collisions of stars. But a search by the Chandra X-ray Observatory found no black holes. It did, however, find a neutron star pulsing once every 10.6 seconds, which sheds light on just what limits there are on the size of a stellar black hole's progenitor.

Chandra Photo Album: Westerlund I

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"
