A roadside rocket display that has stood as a welcome sign for drivers entering the state of Alabama is no longer safe to be left standing, according to NASA and the museum charged with its care.

Why don't they lay it down, mount it on its side, and build a shed around it? That way people can get close to parts that are normally out of reach, and the exhibit can live on. Shouldn't cost that much.

They don't like the cost versus the odds.

There is a Saturn V already laying down inside a building just to the west of the vertical display. That system has the stages separated so folks can see the interconnections.
