just as this science fiction category says "not just for trekkies anymore", i think science fiction is moving ahead in the world. while sci-fi can (and should) remain light-hearted and fun in some respects, it has become dramatic, well written, and actually cared for by "respectable" literary, film and tv critics (not that we care. ha ha)
so, what do you want to see on the web- on vidcast- etc.. because this is where the underground stuff will make the moves before mainstream catches them and big money cookie cuts them for the masses. i am part of an independent sci-fi vidcast series that will be coming out soon on www.venusrises.tv ( dont worry, i am not spamming the project i am in. i joined this site and forum to read and write in it as a peer, fan and friend) and we are hoping to do things a tad bit different.
i am a big fan of gritty sci-fi and think low budget stuff on the web can be almost as good... F that, JUST AS GOOD, as sci-fi channel stuff as the fans of sci-fi assist one another.
just look at all the talent on the web. unknown painters, cg modelers, web designers, musicians, audio/ video engineers, actors... its endless.

again, what do we want to see though? where does our scene lack? what can we do as a community to produce things that get and keep us in the running?

what do you want?

sorry for the rant. told you i am a peer and fan.
-joseph (nathan on venus rises)

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a382/R-GEN/venus rises/nathan_sig_joseph_negra.jpg

i agree with sci-fi taking a turn in many mediums. it is also alot less hokey with new cg technology. the stories follow many standards and conventions but i suppose a specific genre does follow more than the usual.
i would like to see more dramatic twists and character driven plotlines in all of science fiction. sometimes sci-fi characters seem cardboard and inner conflicts underdeveloped. thats what i would mainly like to see.

nice site by the way. very serious looking. looks like it will rock! cant wait to see the trailer and the episodes.

It's already been a big help to aspiring writers. I've read many books and short stories that have been posted on private web pages. Not only that you can also read many of the large publishers books on the web as well, like Baen.

havent been on in awhile.

definately, summoner. i am hoping a wave will begin where sci-fi can HEAVILY influence factual science as it did decades ago with trek.

This time, in a more dramatic way.

ciao
joseph

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a382/R-GEN/venus rises/nathan_sig_joseph_negra.jpg

You mean the influence?

Possibly. Technology is expanding at such a rapid rate that it does seem hard to envision things on an artistic level before science does. but, hey, the far-fetched elements of cloning, space travel, weapons, portable communication, artificial limbs and organs, ad infinitum... have come to fruition so i think great, imaginative minds of fiction can dream up some future realities.

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a382/R-GEN/venus rises/nathan_sig_joseph_negra.jpg

uncoolness:
unknown painters, cg modelers,

Me:
unknown cg modeler, concept visualization, animation...that would be me LOL.

Thanks for the link, I'm always on the lookout for good stuff thats not mainstream. I like to look at sci fi in both mainstream and offbeat realms.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. which picture of venus?

the story is the struggle between mars and venus. there are tons of mars pix throughout our stuff. the story isnt located ON venus or mars but mainly in space and on Earth. (we film in new jersey, usa, so not much to do about a martian or venus landscape. ha ha.)

mars is really where the settlements are. earths mantle is unstable (tectonic plate shifting, mantle pluming, eruptions). mars mantle has no plates.
venus is being mined for its minerals. youll have to see how it is settled. doesnt mean its on the surface!

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a382/R-GEN/venus rises/nathan_sig_joseph_negra.jpg
