oh well, goes to show you how out of the loop - pardon the pun - I am. no idea there was a 4th ringworld book. I may not even have known about the 3rd one. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p> </p><p><font color="#993366"><em>The only laws of matter are those which our minds must fabricate, and the only laws of mind are fabricated for it by matter.</em> <br /> --- James Clerk Maxwell</font></p> </div>

When did this 4th Ringworld book come out? And what's it called? Can't believe that I didn't pick up on that. RW is the best scifi ever written as far as I'm concerned. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <br /><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" style="width:271px;background-color:#FFF;border:1pxsolid#999"><tr><td colspan="2"><div style="height:35px"><img src="http://banners.wunderground.com/weathersticker/htmlSticker1/language/www/US/MT/Three_Forks.gif" alt="" height="35" width="271" style="border:0px" /></div>

"The Pastel City," "A Storm of Wings," "In Viriconium" and "Viriconium Nights" by M. John Harrison. Four of my favourite books and one of my favourite authors. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

I have to say that I prefer his SF. His most recent novel <i>Light</i> is one of the most refreshing SF novels I've read in quite a while. But not for the faint hearted reader.<br /><br />Going back a few decades <i>The Centauri Device</i> and <i>The Machine In Shaft Ten</i> (shorts) are also very fine.<br /><br />Light review<br /><br />Light review<br /><br />Interview <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><font size="2" color="#339966"> I wish I could remember<br /> But my selective memory<br /> Won't let me</font><font size="2" color="#99cc00"> </font><font size="3" color="#339966"><font size="2">- </font></font><font size="1" color="#339966">Mark Oliver Everett</font></p><p> </p> </div>

Don't know if you'd accept it as Sci Fi but the Scar by China Mielville is on hell of a book.<br /><br />Douglas

There is a series of books by Octavia E. Butler who is known as the only female Black Sci-Fi writer that really blows my mind. There are like four books and each one is great alone. She's no Robert E. Heinlein but she's good!!! Has anyone else read her?
