Should the Star Trek: Crucible book series be extended?

For Star Trek's 40th anniversary, a trilogy of books called Crucible was released. Each focuses on one of the three main characters from TOS: McCoy, Spock, and Kirk. All three are out now. They ignore all non-canon books, but do tie into each other through the Guardian of Forever Episode where McCoy saves Edith Keeler and destroys the future.

However, I think we are doing the actors who played Scotty, Uhura, Chekov, and Sulu a disservice by omitting those characters. During filming of TOS episodes, Shatner and Nimoy both commonly insisted that lines given in scripts to the other characters should have been theirs. Nichols was very upset about it in her book Beyond Uhura. She noted how she was commonly left with "Hailing frequencies open" and nothing else for the entire show.

Perhaps, for the 50th anniversary, this could be rectified with more Crucible books all centered around the same events. For instance, perhaps Uhura got back to the ship after McCoy, Spock, and Kirk returned from the past to find subtle changes.

Will Pittenger
Add this user box to your Wikipedia User Page to show your support for the SDC forums:
{{User:Will Pittenger/User Boxes/Space.com Account}}

I think some of the possible injustices to the supporting characters during the television series were corrected in the movies. In the various films, many of the former supporting cast members were given involved and pivotal roles. They added greatly to much of the story.

I think for the book lovers, some books dealing with the sub-characters would be an excellent idea. I'm not a reader of the books past a few of the very old ones which basically just dealt with some of the episodes and <gasp /> the cartoon series. I did read one not too long ago I bought just to give a new Star Trek book a shot. I wasn't really impressed. But, that's just me. Judging by the amount of ST related series out there, there is a fanbase for them to work with. Books on Scot, Uhura, Chekov, Sulu and including a few guest appearances by some other supporters like Chapel, Rand etc.. I think they'd do well.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...
