Leo, will the other thread stay in the system? I don't know if you purge threads (I know databases need to be kept down) that have not been posted on for x amount of time?

Just wondering in case I need to save it somewhere on the PC as it's a superb thread, best thread I've ever read.

The following is a direct quote from this morning's NTD status:

"OV-103 (STS-114/ISS-17-LF1)/Pad B

Launch Date Decision (1812hrs Thursday per Mike Leinbach):
Program level concerns regarding the ET LOX feed-line bellows ice formation, liberation debris and transport analysis have warranted further testing prior to flight. With concurrence from Bill Readdy, the following actions will be performed prior to STS-114 launch. The analysis techniques used will be more vigorously examined and additional testing of ice formation scenarios, liberation and RCC/TPS impact modeling will be performed. The results of these additional efforts will be subject to a peer review by the NESC followed by a delta Debris Verification Review (DVR) and finally, a presentation to the Stafford Covey Task Group. The targeted completion date for analysis is June 15-20.

Vehicle decisions: We will miss the May opportunity but will continue to prepare for launch in the July 13 - 31 window. The decision to continue S0024 hyper loading will be discussed today. Loading, if performed, would be NET Saturday due to the Titan launch. While the decision to roll the shuttle back to the VAB is still being evaluated, additional troubleshooting will be performed in order to resolve issues with the Engine Cut Off (ECO) sensor and LH2 pre-press valve cycling. An additional tanking test is also being evaluated. The TCDT planned for next week is also under review.

ET decisions: The ET LOX feed-line bellows heater mod has not been approved due to the uncertainty associated with the affect on the LOX commodity. If the mod is approved it would begin on the STS-121 tank immediately (Mod kit expected at KSC by May 5) and would take about two weeks to implement. Another concern is the Diffuser Mod that was implemented on the LH2 side of the STS-114 tank (both sides of the STS-121 tank) and whether it is a contributor to the LH2 pre-press cycling concern seen dur

The other thread stays. The only big threads I ever purged intentionally were word association game threads that have no historic value.

No historic value for word association? *scoff* tragedy, those were extraordinarily valuable word association threads, that they were. I remember after the crash when everyone's post counts were reset to zero we played massive amounts of word association to get back up, and everyone complained that it wasn't fair because we didn't get them through quality posts, but I thought it was fair because we were simply making up for quality posts that were stolen from us. I think several people went from like quark to asteroid in the span of a day with those things o_O

Leo do you have database backup powers? I just wondered, with the great cull last year, all the knowledge that was lost.

I find that exciting news about Hubble and Goddard.
It virtually assures that successful launches for Discovery and Atlantis will put a Hubble Servicing Mission back on the rails.
It sounds like Michael Griffin is of the same ilk as Kennedy..."we choose to go to the Moon....not because they are easy, but because they are hard".
There will be many occasions in the future when going on a particular mission will be optional because of the risk but we will do it because we must move forward.
How's the mood at KSC, SG? I know you're all dedicated professionals, but this all has to be a bit of a downer?

was STS-121 moved up or are the other four in the list of schedule simply that far behind due to post-Columbia sequencing?

Poster: shuttle_guy
Subject: Re: Proposed launch dates

These are the planned launch dates:

STS-114 -- 13 Jul 05
STS-121 -- 09 Sep 05
STS-115 -- 16 Feb 06
STS-116 -- 30 Mar 06
STS-117 -- 13 Jul 06

SG...the Bill Parsons info above. Is that an internal e-mail? Would love to use it as info, but would like to know the origin.

Thanks.

I may be reading your question incorrectly, but STS-121 was added to the manifest as a second "test" flight.

Are the STS-115 to 117 launch dates in daylight launch windows? Or do they assume that some of the RTF lighting requirements will be lifted after STS-121?

AFAIK, the launch planning windows above assume that the daylight restriction hasn't been lifted, since NASA hasn't officially committed to lifting it. However, if asked, I think most people would say they expect the restriction to be lifted after the first few flights.

>Any estimate on roll-back date?
I asked him earlier today, he said that they haven't fixed a plan yet. They expect to load hypers and do the APU hotfire tests over the weekend or early next week. By then they should have the rollback plan firmed up. (As it is the rollback hasn't been officially "declared".)

Possibly, but remember we only have a two orbiter fleet until mid-2006.

Out of interest, in this countdown do you run the sound supression system? Just wondering if you run the water to test the system - even though it's not needed.

Anywhere that lists this sort of countdown in stages - as in do you gimble the engines etc?.....basically, is it everything apart from pressurising the ET etc and firing up the engines?

I believe those dates are not restricted by the daylight launch/ET sep. restriction. We must get that lifted if we are to do 5 to 6 flights a year. And, of course, delete the "rescue" mission on standby.

Thanks s_g. I had this vague idea that the program may try a December launch if STS-114 and 121 went well. But I'd guess NASA will want to go through a lot of reviews before lifting the restrictions. Two months from STS-121 might not be enough.

For those up late Down Under and those up early in the eastern US, live coverage of the TCDT is about to fire up on NASA TV in fifteen. That's 10:30 UTC.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Who decided on the Hawaiian motif!
