Space Station Simulator/Game

I ran across SpaceStationSim that was released last month for the PC. I made a mistake and bought it last month. Ugggh. <br />And I will typically put up with a LOT of flaws for genres I enjoy. Save your money. Damn, I miss Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space.

SpaceStationSim got mixed reviews at best. Well, for $20... I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. But mostly, the interface is horrible. It is extremely cumbersome and frankly, I don't see a lot of simulation going on. I had one astronaut appear on the station that I never selected or sent up: he was just suddenly there and I couldn't control him. What was up with that? <br /><br />If you are a real fan, go ahead, buy, and enjoy... just don't expect too much.

Well I am very much not a gamer, so what do I know? But I purchased this one. I'm not sure why, an impulse buy IIRC.<br /><br />I like supporting space-related ideas and I try hard not to say harsh things about the disappointing ones. If you have nothing nice to say and all that . . .<br /><br />So anyway, yeah, I tried this simulation. And um, it uh installed OK and uh . . .<br /><br />So how about that Oregon State University Football team? We started 2-3 and finished 10-4, with 4 thrilling victories! If it wasn't for Boise State's amazing plays- not surprising to us, we're one of the few big-time teams willing to play them - everybody would have been talking about our comeback over Missouri in the Sun Bowl. And our baseball team is the reigning College NCAA World Series Champions, don't forget that!<br /><br />Um anyway, yeah, it's an interesting piece of software . . . <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" /><br /> <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> </div>

You actually bring up a good point: maybe buying this will at least support the idea that there <i> may </i> be money in the genre and encourage somebody to put together something more usable.

Actually, that's exactly what it was.<br /><br />The Dreaded Space Tourist - all the character does is go around screwing things up.<br /><br />A bit hard to take for a guy who was talking up space tourism here before most everybody, way back in the pre-Tito days. That was one of the arguments made back in the day.<br /><br />The amount of maintenance in this sim was absurd. As NASA Administrator, given what I was working with, I would have shut the whole thing down and redesign everything for a reasonable MTBF (mean time between failure).
