SRB Design Flaw still exits

I've been watching the WB-57 Chase plane video of the Discovery Launch. I see gas escaping the SRB @ 1 minute 46 seconds. <br /><br />Look for yourself.<br /><br />http://www.nasa.gov/returntoflight/multimedia/RTF_videos_search_agent_archive_1.html<br /><br />Click link and choose WB-57 Chase Plane Video.<br /><br />Stop the video at 1 minute 46 seconds. You'll see a hot spot on the SRB.<br />

This issue has been discussed in some other threads. Bottom line is that you are seeing an effect in which the shock wave detaches from the aft of the SRB, and moves foward on the vehicle. This leads to a phenomenon I work with from time to time of plume recirculation.
