My trip in july has become alot more exciting now that I am going to be seeing a launch! Especially since australian Andy Thomas is going to be on board!

Good for you!

Me too...although like the May one, I'm waiting till nearer the time as July is not certain.

There's another launch review press conference coming - just been told - about how long the ET's are going to take for reworking...could be interesting on the effect for July.

Well thank you very much. With that bold pronouncement you've almost guaranteed a launch delay. I hope you're pleased with yourself.

For those of you who don't already know - seeing a launch is to a spacehead what reaching nirvana is to a Buddhist. The only way to truly achieve it is to stop wishing for it to happen.

NEVER! its not going to happen...they are going to keep the launch then just for me? right?

UK News keeps using Andy for interviews given he sounds pretty much English! Was he educated over in England or something...doesn't sound very Aussie.

"...doesn't sound very Aussie"
We don't all sound like Crododile Dundee!

I have to agree with you SRTF, his accent does sound slightly English. It is definitely not a 'typical' Australian one, though it has been my experience that Aussies can sound like anything from Crocodile Dundee to almost a Kiwi!

I would say his accent is representative of what happens when you move from Adelaide to the USA after Lockheed offer you a job. He speaks in a very thoughtful and considered way, which also seems to lend a little 'Englishness' to everything he says.

As an aside, those crew interviews that NASA TV play every night for me when I get home from work are great for letting us see a little of each crew member's personality. Having watched Robinson's a few times, it came as less of a surprise to see him collecting 'holiday snaps' on the way to the Orbiter this morning. It definitely looked like he was on an adventure, and wanting to record everything for his family scrapbook.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

I'm making the trip across the pond to Florida for flying lessons in September, so hopefully I'll get a chance to see the launch of STS-121. It'll be a bit of a step up from the largest launch I've seen so far (a two stage rocket using three clustered Estes D motors as the first stage)!

Kiwi, have you seen a shuttle launch live? Any thoughts of going over for this one? I plan to be there, we could meet up with poodown and buy SG several beers!

Oz, regrettably I have never seen a Shuttle launch live. In fact, about the biggest rocket I ever saw launched live is the kind you stick in a milk bottle and light the blue touch paper on.

Unfortunately finances and work preclude me from going over for STS-114. I did set up a satellite dish recently though, and feel quite lucky to be one of relatively few in NZ to have NASA TV available in my house 24/7. However, NASA have given me a deadline and I am determined to see a Shuttle launch live before her days are done. And, for all the questions SG/najaB/Calli et al have patiently answered for me over the years, I might have to invest in a small Florida brewery to repay their generosity!

I am very envious of anyone who thinks they may be there for '114. If you have the opportunity to head across, I say go for it. I am going to have to start smaller for now and work my way up to the sheer excitement of a Shuttle launch. In my immediate sights are fast and noisy ground-based vehicles (Melbourne GP).

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

I'm so jealous! I've wanted to see a shuttle launch for as long as I can remember. My birthday is on May 16, and my husband had offered to take me. However, since it was delayed, that kind of fell through. Cheer lots for me. I'll make it there before she stops flying.

Also, SG, I have read several different threads, and I just want to thank you for all of your great answers, and patience. I have really learned a lot from you.

Rae

That is great news for Andy and Shannon. They obviously keep their NASA bios right up to date also, as during those NASA TV interviews Andy talks about how he and his 'girlfriend' have bought some some land and are looking to build.

On the subject of SG unfortunately never getting to see the launch, even though he is so intimately involved in it, I'll bet he sure hears and feels it! And, besides, I'm sure he does get to 'see' it in a way through the telemetry being fed to the consoles. There's no doubt all us 'armchair rocketmen' (and women!) would like to have a laptop set up next to our armchairs, feeding us the major telemetry live, as we watch the launch on TV!

I have also set up my home theatre finally. I may not be able to see the launch live but by God me, a few friends, and about 3 streets either side of mine are gonna hear about it! Hmmmm, I wonder if I can talk NASA into providing a multi-channel audio feed by then ...

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!
