shuttle_guy,

Wow! People are really freaking out over some unidentified debris! The shuttle had a clean bill of health at the station, and there is no record of any impacts, so it is extremely unlikely that the shuttle has been damage at all. After hauling a large piece of equipment with lots and lots of niches for something to get lodged in over the previous years into orbit, a little garbage floating around in the bay is not unthinkable.

People are jumping to the worst-case scenarios with no reason, I think.
The secret to peace of mind is a short attention span.

I agree, though another on orbit scan should make everyone feel better.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

"People are jumping to the worst-case scenarios with no reason, I think. "

Not really. The debris was seen right after the RCS checkout and around the same time the wing leading edge sensors showed a 2g measurement. With the weather being very bad it only made sense to check it out. The sensor data was just the acceleration of jets (but needed some time to verify) so no issue.

Hi everyone, New user to the Thread seems like after watching NASA TV since 11:30 PM (EDT) 11:30 am (Sg time) there are no damages found on the atlantis's fuselage and wing leading edge . the checks are still going on without incident Let's hope the crew maybe granted a safe return to KSC tomorrow . Godspeed atlantis !

You guys watching NASA TV? Jett has just reported yet another three objects seen leaving the vicinity of Atlantis.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

No one is freaking out

halman didn't actually say NASA people were freaking out. I definitely think that the posts from people here on the board were getting a little wild and wooly.

Jett has now speculated with the ground about the trajectory of Soyuz. Could they be objects associated with that launch.

They've reported seeing two 'ring'-like objects, and one 'foil'-like object. There seemed to be quick action to try and get some footage of them on cameras as we watched on NASA TV.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

I think the weather at Kennedy is a no go today anyway as a cold front is passing through Florida, by tomorrow we all should have some nice cleaner, cooler air. Coldest morning of the summer is forcast here of 58F tomorrow morning, though I'll beleive that when I see it.

Objects to the right of me.
Objects to the left of me.
Here in the middle with you( floating things )

Can't believe all the rotten luck that NASA is having. And just think? One of the 4 prophecies I sent to NASA on November of 1987 told of the rotten luck which has only increased over time. This one prophecy has been an on going fulfillment. 2 other prophecies has since been fulfilled. Only 1 left to be fulfilled. I'm sure keeping track of these since they were sent to NASA. If they kept my prophecies, they ought to pull them out, dust them off and read them again.

All these prophecies are based on my night visions and I have a very high accuracy rate with dream fulfillment which sometimes frightens me. And because of this, based on hundreds of dreams, I sometimes call myself the NASA prophet.

Sometimes I wished I never knew the existance of NASA as my visions go back to the time when it put the first man into suborbital flight. But, I didn't keep dream diaries until 1973.

.....Shuttle me up before I get tooooooooo old and feeble.....

---Happiness is winning a huge lottery---

They only took the time to reinspect the TPS for a third time because they've got a day to kill anyway. The real reason the mission was extended by a day was because the weather wasn't cooperating at KSC. That's actually pretty normal; KSC is in Florida, after all.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

This is for all mankind, guys: every completed Shuttle mission is a milestone and a TRIUMPH. A milestone because it brings us ever closer to a true permanent presence in space and a triumph because the naysayers, flat-earther type cynics (aw, but isn't this all just a waste of money, blah bloody blah...) are again proven wrong. WE are right...

May the angels ride with you, all the way to wheels stop, my friends...

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!
