Yet the clock is ticking. Hmm. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well. If it takes until October to get it right , so be it.

The NASA team is quite capable of making the right decisions.

I want to see it launched today also, but only if the crews safety comes first.

That decision is in capable hands.

Columbia and Challenger

Starships of Heroes

"Sensor not working. Violates the rules."

right. there is 4 sensors and at least 2 must report to system for meco to be performed. so theoretically, 2 might do the job. in the past, before challenger i believe, lcc rules was 3 of 4 eco should be ok for launch. then they changed that criteria to 4 of 4. discovery was delayed for several month because of that. but now they are pushing atlantis with pump on 2 phases and 3 ecos out of 4. i heard, mmt meetings are hot.

Phase A on the coolant pump seems to be working now, for some reason. Must have used one of those special NASA Fine Adjusters to fix it.

My wife just mentioned to me that Star Trek
the first episode of the original series aired 40 years
ago today....

In other words, this is a good day for a launch.

NASA's Mission Management Team called off the shuttle Atlantis' countdown today and delayed launch at least 24 hours because of concern about an apparently faulty low-level hydrogen fuel sensor in the ship's huge external tank.

"Yet the clock is ticking. Hmm."

There is talk they will let it run down to T-9 min and then scrub for 24hrs. All the rest of these activities are good practice.

"i heard, mmt meetings are hot."

Yep, I'll like to be part of a "fly on the wall" documentary team at that MMT meeting

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

Interesting. George is saying we are about to get the official word from MMT shortly.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

I couldn't see anything saying they were scrubbing on that CBS site.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

NASA TV is still saying 'progress is good' but with the caveat that the MMT has yet to present their recommendations. This at T-39 mins.

Might be time for a specs prescription update, Paul!

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Bill has probably pre-written his scrub piece, in anticipation of that scenario. He may have then accidently uploaded to the CBS site.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

I agree, I can't see how they cannot scrub, given the clear violation of the LCC.

They definitely need to start broadcasting the MMT meetings, though I don't think reality TV will ever get to venture into this slice of NASA workings.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Assuming thats the case. If they can prove that its a sensor malfunction rather than something more serious, is there a good chance for a launch tomorrow?

The ECO sensors are a redundant system. I'm sure they measure tank levels real-time via other systems, not to mention the fact that flight computers work on time/altitude etc, more than what prop's left in the tanks?

I'd assume that's the line the pro-flight people are pushing in the MMT anyway.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

The rules are quite clear on a ECO sensor malfunction. Unless Nasa are rewriting the rule book then they only have 1 option
