"The orbiter weight and center of gravity have been determined. This is
the final task prior to transferring Discovery to the orbiter
transporter in preparation for rollover to the Vehicle Assembly
Building. Rollover is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. Sept. 19. "

If they determine the center of gravity is not where they want it, do they shift the position of crew/cargo, or is there some kind of ballast that is repositioned?

Thanks.
Brian J. Any idea what time they will decide on what repair is needed to fix the hydraulic leak, and if it will be on Nasatv?

Excellant. How many contingency days are now left after the repair?

Nice work on the repair.

Does anyone know the diameter of Harmony? I assume it's about the same as Destiny, which will make it a very tight fit in the Payload Bay.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

"... a very tight fit in the Payload Bay"

Just let a bit of air out and push? Yes, with the addition of the OBSS it does make things tighter than when Harmony was desgined.

Yes, I'd imagine. I had a bit of a look around and it seems Destiny is 4.3 metres in diameter, while Harmony is 4.4 metres across. I'm skeptical about that on the basis that I remember Rob Navias telling me there were only a couple of inches clearance either side in the payload bay when Destiny was unberthed.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

Looks like slicks, no wonder they don't want to land in the rain...

Oh, cool, the Orbiter rides on Michelin, I retread tires with Michelin Retread Technology. I wonder if they retread those babies.

I also wonder how much of NASA rides on Michelins

"Looks like slicks, no wonder they don't want to land in the rain... "

I think the runway is grooved instead of the tire. This is supposed to help in case of rain. Can anyone confirm this?
Brian J. Pfeifer http://sabletower.wordpress.com
The Dogsoldier Codex http://www.lulu.com/sabletower

And we've needed every drop. My garden is happy again. I've scheduled my flying to give me the days off for the launch. I might be in town for the landing, too. I love watching them land as much as the launches, maybe I'll get to see one from the SLF one day, instead of by the side of the road, I'd love to see the actual touchdown.

"The tires are not reused."

Does that mean the tires only endure one landing, or are they used a few times?
Either way they sure would get good mileage

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Wanna see this site looking like the old SDC uplink?

Go here to see how: SDC Eye saver

I am pretty sure it means there is a pile of 100+ sets of Orbiter tyres out the back of the VAB.... a new set every flight.

Forgive the UK/OZ spelling for tires...

They recently (year or two ago) sold a bunch of the tires in a surplus auction outside KSC.

-Ben
