"When will the NASA PAO understand that the ET is the External Propellant tank not the external fuel tank???? Maybe this is why Americans are so dumb. Because the people in charge think the average American is too dumb to understand simple science, so they dumb it down, making Americans actually dumb in the process.

So, again we are defeated. I do have some sympathy for the PAO's dilemma. Taking the RPM example, Rotating Pitch Maneuver is obviously more intuitive the R-BAR Pitch Maneuver, even if the former is not the accurate expansion of the acronym. The PAO folks have to walk a fine line between making this stuff accessible to a mildly interested general public (at best) and being correct.

If the bottom line is that more people become interested in the space program by taking a few liberties with the lingo, then I think they can be forgiven. If you can switch people onto what NASA, ESA, JAXA, etc, are doing, and those people go away and learn everything there is to readily know, then it's a win for everybody ultimately.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!
