If the weather's lousy in Florida (I'd be shocked ) that's not a bad place to be.

Is your assignment there a crapshoot? Or are people hand picked for the different contingency sites?

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. More dates for your diary

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - NASA's Kennedy Space Center will hold a media event at 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Oct. 31, to highlight the next pressurized element to be launched to the International Space Station. The European Space Agency's Columbus module will fly aboard space shuttle Atlantis on the STS-122 mission, targeted for launch Dec. 6.

I'm starting to get excited about this mission. I'm not sure, but this is the first of the research-specific modules to go up, right?

Could we still launch on the 6th and just do a slow approach to the station?

I don't believe so. Once you launch, the meter is running on consumables. They would want to arrive at the PMA/Node 2 ASAP so they can plug into the SSPTS (which buys you additional docked operations time) and also get the tightly packed schedule of work underway.

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!

"ASAP so they can plug into the SSPTS "

True in general, but 1E is not a SSPTS flight (orbiter has not had the upgrades).

I think it already is.

But don't forget the 10A thread that erioladastra started for the between ISS activity (and there's a lot) before the next shuttle launch.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Launch time is 4:31:36 p.m ET according to Wikipedia. Is this correct as of today (i know it could change if we dont get up on the 6th)

Just trying to see if i will be off work for the launch

It was correct as of three days ago. It will change again a few times by launch day, by up to a minute or so either way. The final 'second' is chosen right on launch day but by then it won't be more than a few seconds different.

If launch slips, then it gets earlier by 23 to 25 minutes each day.

-Ben

In reply to:

What determines (or will determine, since this upgrade is relatively new) if SSPTS is gonna be used or not on a mission?

The Orbiter in the first instance. Discovery and Endeavour both have the SSPTS mod and, as erioladastra pointed out, Atlantis doesn't (and isn't going to due to retirement). Assuming the Node 2 transfer is successful and Exp.16 get the SSPTS connections remade during their EVA's, then it will be available.

I'd say this also assumes the final set of arrays get deployed and, collectively, they generate close to the anticipated power. ISS will need to continue to have margin on the top available for use by SSPTS. The starboard SARJ might complicate things if they can't get it into a healthier config (which I have little doubt they will).

Who is this superhero? Henry, the mild-mannered janitor ... could be!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bring Back The Black!
