Phil Plait has put up a review of the movie, Superman Returns in which he points out some areas of questionable scientific accuracy.

Caution: spoilers

LINK

Yes, it's a movie, Enigma10. You might appreciate this verse from the MST3K theme song:

If you're wondering how he eats and breathes
Or other science facts (la la la)
Repeat to yourself "It's just a show,
I should really just relax"

But that's not the point of the Bad Astronomy reviews. The purpose of those isn't to rate movies on their quality, although inevitably he makes some editorial remarks about story and acting and things like that. The purpose is to educate. He uses items of questionable physics and/or astronomy as talking points to explain good physics and astronomy. Because he reviews a movie, it does not mean the movie is bad. He liked the movie, actually. But just as any comic book movie can be expected to do, it gave him a lot of material.

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly . . . timey wimey . . . stuff." -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"

There was a scene in It's a Mad Mad Mad World where a small torch is accidently bumped and starts a fire that detonates a large quantity of fireworks, indoors.

When I found out it took over 100 takes of the scene to get one where the accident results in the torch winding up in the right place to start the fire, it just ruined the whole hardware store scene for me. (btw, the take they used isn't all that good either)

Knowing the realistic odds for setting the fire as portrayed changes the scene for the worse. (just the scene though, I still love the movey itself)

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

Exactly. I like reading his reviews, because he catches things I would never have thought twice about. Armageddon seemed completely believable, although I was twelve at the time I saw it.

In the original movie, Superman reversed time by flying 'round and 'round the earth at super speeds. Wonder what ol' Phil made of that?
Just tell the truth and let the chips fall...

That, and the fact that a dude in tights and a cape has the strength of Hercules and can fly (among other things).

The word 'Super' is a bit outdated isn't it? I wonder what if there is a more suitable contemporary name?

Suggestions?
