maybe its from the pics perspective but it doesnt look as spiffy and streamlines as the enterprise from first contact.

That's because this film takes place BEFORE the original Star Trek TV series, not in the time of ST-Next Generation. That's a difference of almost 100 years

Bottom line: this movie is a "restart", not unlike what's been done with Batman Beings and the recent Bond films.

Sweet, been watching a bit of TOS recently on Sci-Fi.

I think the thing I'm most excited about is Simon Pegg playing Scotty.
"All God does is watch us and kill us when we get boring. All Constitution-class Enterprises have been NCC-1701's, but the first had no suffix letter. That started with another Constitution-class heavy cruiser, the USS Yorktown, being renamed/re-designated NCC-1701-A and replacing the destroyed original in the "ST3: Search for Spock" movie.

BTW: the first Constitution-class was NX-1700, the USS Constitution

Holy Crap!

Batman designed the Enterprise?

"Hi! I'm James T. Kirk. I'm kind of a "big deal" around here."

"Oh really? Well, hello! In the ST timeline - the movie is supposed to take place around the end of the academy days for Kirk, McCoy and Spock. Kind of when they all first get together.

As far as the fans and"spoilers" on the engines I think they are trying to back engineer the improvements to engines over the years.

Note the engines through the years:
USS Enterprise NCC-1701 The Original Series
USS Enterprise NCC-1701 Movie #1
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A Movie #3
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-B Star Trek:Generations
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-C Star Trek: TNG "Yesterday's Enterprise"
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D Star Trek:The Next Generation
USS Enterprise NCC-1701-E Star Trek:Insurrection

So I think they are going for something that looks like an "older model" engine for the prequel.

I'm confused again...Wouldn't this have to be the same Enterprise from TOS?...Or is this supposed to be an earlier Constitution Class Enterprise?

Remember, TOS Enterprise had been around quite a while under the command of Christopher Pike. It had to be around for at least 13 years prior to the command of Kirk when the events of "The Menagerie" take place. The ship portrayed in the account of the Enterprise's visit to Talos IV is the same ship that Kirk takes command of 13 (or so), years later, Right?

Also, Isn't Spock quite a bit older than Kirk?...Vulcans live longer than humans and Spock served 11 years under Pike and was part of the Talos IV event. Spock was a seasoned officer then, when Kirk was just a fresh from the Academy, wet behind the ears ensign on the USS Farragut. So how can they be from the same Starfleet Academy Class?

Or, should I just cool my jets and wait patiently for all of these questions to be answered in the movie?

It's called "retconning".

Rewriting the history of a series to make new ideas work.

The whole "Enterprise" series with Scott Bakula is an example of this - prior to that series the NX series, let alone one named Enterprise, never existed in the 'history' of the Trek universe.

However, it is supposed to have Pike in it so this may be the time when Pike hands it over to Kirk and Spock gets promoted to First Officer {he was only science officer under Pike the woman was First officer}

As far as the ship, the pic was from the trailer called "Under Construction", as in still being put together, so as we get closer to the date, it may look more like the Enterprise from "The Menagerie".

I know, but I like to point out these little inconsistencies to see if anyone is paying attention.

You could be right, it could be about the time when Pike hands the keys over to Kirk, but I thought it was supposed to be about the Academy days of Kirk, Spock, and I guess McCoy, (even though McCoy is older than Kirk as well.) Two events that are at least 13 years apart.

Then the movie trailer shows the construction of what we assume is the original NCC-1701, (no bloody A,B,C, or D) Enterprise under construction. But this Enterprise should have been around well before Kirk's academy days...tooling around the galaxy under Captain Pike. Perhaps what we are seeing in the trailer is a re-fit., or maybe the movie starts with the original construction and jumps ahead; through the command of Pike, Pomp and Circumstance at SA, ending with Kirk assuming command…Spanning the entire 13 plus years, that would be cool. We know the rest of the story.

In reality, I suppose they have to make the ship look better for the movie than the 4 ft model they used in TOS. FWIW, that model is hanging in the Smithsonian Air & Space museum in Wash, D.C.

BTW the woman first officer in The Menagerie was called Number One and was played by Majel Barrett, who later died her hair and was demoted to nurse.

Actually, it is originally commanded by Captain Robert April, then by Captain Christopher Pike.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
