I know that he / she was referring to the clumpy soil not going into the oven on Phoenix. Perhaps he / she realises that this is the first landing at a high latitude on Mars & that the soil may have different properties. Phoenix is a beautiful craft, superbly engineered that has carried out the mission flawlessly, clumpy soil NOT being related to the design of Phoenix in any way. As for the Galileo spacecraft, it was not an arm, but the HGA failed to open, lessons were learnt from that, look at the HGAs of Cassini & New Horizons, not to mention a very effective back up plan saved the Galileo mission, thus becoming so successful, that there were three mission extentions.Yes I agree.
