Anyone heard news about it? Is Stephenson still writing it?

Variety had this article about a month ago (link....)

I can't find any production dates, which figures since the writer has just been assigned. Judging by the fact that it's a long form miniseries late 2010 or 2011 is IMO a good educated guess.

'Diamond' sparkes for Zoë Green

Stephenson adaptation to run on Sci Fi

Scribe Zoë Green has been tapped to pen "The Diamond Age" for the Sci Fi channel and producer George Clooney.

(me: insert Solaris jokes here, though that was more Steven Soderbergh's disaster than Clooney's)

Project is being developed as a longform for the cabler, and is based on Neal Stephenson's novel "The Diamond Age: Or a Young Lady's Illustrated Primer."

Clooney and Grant Heslov will produce for their Smokehouse Pictures shingle.

"Diamond Age" revolves around a futuristic society in which one man believes creativity has been stifled. He creates an interactive book for his daughter, who uses it as a guide through a surreal alternate world.

Thanks. So the project's not dead at least. Wasn't Stephenson involved earlier?

This could be a great movie if they don't whitewash it too much.
