I know there used to be, it seemed, quite a few threads about what people saw when they had done a night's worth, or even a few hours worth of looking, but rather than dig them up, I thought I'd begin a new one.

I got up earlier than usual (about 4:00am) and spent about 30 mins on my back deck this morning, just looking up. I was able to see the moon and Mars, vaguely make out where Taurus is - really only see Aldebaran since the moon was pretty bright, part of Orion (trees block a lot of my viewing to the east), and could just make out the great square of Pegasus. I do not own a telescope - yet, but I do have binoculars and they really help, as the ol' eyesight ain't what it used to be!
But it was nice to have a break from the haze and humidity and do a bit of seeing. Of course, it's supposed to get back to summer-like conditions this afternoon and tomorrow, and for who knows how long after that?! I sure can't wait for cooler, clearer weather!
Anyway, anyone else been able to do any looking?

The moon and Mars were great last night! They stayed almost side by side all night. I tried to take some pics but I couldn't get anything except overexposed moon shots without mars. I was using a new camera and most likely didn't have it set correctly for night use.

In reply to:

I know there used to be, it seemed, quite a few threads about what people saw when they had done a night's worth, or even a few hours worth of looking

I started a thread a few days ago. I have also wondered why more people don't post what they have seen the night before. I'm sure lots of ideas can come from a few threads like this. It would be really good for people just getting interested in astronomy since the very first question is always "what to look at and where"
Frost
We've had threads in the past about Urban Observing & Dark Sky Observing. The "Urban" thread was very active in the past but both have died down: my excuse - the weather has been very uncooperative to me on my day's off. However, I still sign in every day to see if anybody, anywhere has done any observing only to find very, very little content. So, I'm all for reading about other people's observations! Keep 'em coming...
