Anyone else watching the mini series on the Sci-Fi channel? I didn't expect much but watched the first episode Sunday night and was interested enough to watch it last night too.
Bob DeWoody

I have the first two episodes recorded to DVD-RAM, makes for easier on-disc editing and commercial removal, and will burn a custom DVD when they're done. Already working on the the menus and such.

It's not so geeky when you make money from it and get free hardware & software to test.

Hey, didn't you get the memo?. Geek = good now, you know.

Actually, I wish there was some way for you to tell me how to actually use Photoshop properly. I am damned if I can work out how to re-size photos, it seems to work, but then every photo comes out the same.

Me hearing geek noises , was admiration, not poking poo in your general direction.

And making money = win.
Making money sitting at a computor = all kinds of win.
Making money , sitting at a computor, in an American winter?. Win forged from golden diamonds I am guessing.

Resize in Photoshop:

Image/Image Size/, set "constrain proportions" and enter your new x or y size in pixels or dimensional measurment. The other dimension will be automatically updated. OK resizes the image. SAVE and it's on the HDD as a replacement. SAVE AS and you can give it a new filename.

That said I do batches with IrfanView, a freeware image viewer tool. Its batch tool can resize, rename (with numeric indexing if you choose) or both to a new folder or change the files in situ.

http://www.irfanview.net/

Don't forget to install the plug-ins pack too.

I also eschew Photoshop for many uses in favor of Corel/Ulead's PhotoImpact 12 (13 is coming) which is more video oriented. LOTS of handy tools including visual web page creation (saves out the HTML etc.), Z-merge, lower thirds (graphics at the bottom of a TV screen) and visual DVD menu creation for use with their authoring products (for easy projects, use easy to use s/w ). Both can save a lot of work. It also has a handy wizard for extracting objects from a complex image and HDR tools.

Photoshop

1. load an image into Photoshop

2. put your pointer at the top/left of the menu bar and click on Image

3. select Image Size on the menu that drops down

4. enter the new size and click OK

5. Save or Save As depending on your needs.

6. Repeat as necessary.

IrfanView

1. open IrfanView and select Batch Conversion/Rename from the File menu

2. on the right top panel browse to your source image folder. Also in the left dialog select the output folder. Select the filetype and images you want to resize and click the ADD button. If doing the whole folder click ADD ALL.

3. on the left select the output format then click the Advanced settings button. Make the changes here you need. Lots options here, but stick to size for now. Click OK when done.

4. click "Start Batch" and it'll process all the files selected.

How did a thread on Tin Man end up being a class on manipulating photos?

I watched the final episode last night and all in all I think the mini series was very entertaining. No need to ruin it for those of you who have not had the time to view it yet. The only negative I have is the number of commercials the Sci-Fi channel ran to pay for it. To make it worse they basically ran the same commercials over and over for the whole 6 hours. I'd like to watch it again commercial free.
Bob DeWoody

I personally like Zooey Deschanel as an actress. She is very good and very funny in certain specific types of roles. I thought she was excellent at the beginning of the first episode playing a jaded youth tired of the hick Kansas town that she grew up in, but once she landed in OZ she needed to crank up the emotion a bit.

So, again we are defeated. I watched all 3 episodes. It was okay, I guess. It was pretty clever how they tied Wizard of Oz stuff in to the story.

"2012.. Year of the Dragon!! Get on the Dragon Wagon!".

In reply to:

It is unclear to me why it was titled "Tin Man".

Probably because all of the other, more obvious, names for a re-make of The Wizard of Oz have already been taken by other re-makes.

The next re-make will probobly be titled "You Know, That Story With Dorothy and the Ruby Slippers and a Witch and a Wizard and Some Flying Monkeys and all that."

So, again we are defeated. Got to watch it all today. All in all I liked it. The ending was a bit predictable though.

I have an answer for everything...you may not like the answer or it may not satisfy your curiosity..but it will still be an answer.
"Imagination is more important then Knowledge" ~Albert Einstien~
Guns dont kill people.
