So, Mars is not that dry.
Some hydroponics might be going on there, after all.

Here is the picture of dew droplets on the surface of Spirit's black calibration post:

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/mycommon/growing-droplets-617-622.jpg

Do you see few bright points? The round ones?
They are water droplets.
Has anyone 3D glasses yet?

es

The brillant idea that it is dust, unfortunately, does not pass laughing test.
Dust stains are not round.

es
Might I have the link(s) to the site where you got these pictures? Links to the particular pictures themselves.
"2012.. Year of the Dragon!! Get on the Dragon Wagon!".

Blowups of the results are below. The one on the left is the original. The one on the right has been brightened and contrast enhanced.

Show me the dew. All I see are some spots that are brighter than their surroundings.

Edit: OK, extrasense beat me to the links.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

"I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. This one is from Sol 425.. VERY similar. I don't think "dew" would last 200 sols in the same spot.

http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/all/2/p/425/2P164104751ESFA8B3P2810L7M1.HTML

Of course, what does it say about me that I scoured thru hundreds of sols' worth of images to find a previous image captured from the same time of day? LOL
"2012.. Year of the Dragon!! Get on the Dragon Wagon!".

Well, what is your explanation?

The dew can form in many places, but be seen depending on the light here or there.

I am open to new ideas. Is it that that post is inevenly evaporating?

es
Starting from sol1, the earlier images show that post with what appears to be a matte finish.

To me, the most likely explanation is that over time, wind driven dust is "polishing" the post, or removing the matte finish, and the byproduct is bright spots in the form of reflection due to mirroring.
"2012.. Ok, the stereo image suggests, that the bright spot is elevated over the surface of post ball. It is not very consistent with polishing theory.

es
Dot is specular reflection of sun.

TPTB went to Dallas and all I got was Plucked !!

So many people, so few recipes !!

Let's clean up this stinkhole !!

It amazes me how everyone makes up their mind when in reality they have no idea if it's really this, that, or the other.

That's disingenuous, Max (unless I'm misinterpreting you). Because you're simultaneously saying that about the rest of us - and exonerating ES, all in the same breath.

Edit: that was unclear. I'll express it differently.

You are saying it's not ok for us to state what we think it *isn't* - but allowing ES to say what it *is*

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Hi Yevaud. You've misinterpreted me. ES has no idea what's on the stick either.

Ok. I was uncertain, that's why I qualified it. Thanks.

I only responded in the first place as ES has "Life on Mars" on the brain. "Big Bug with Viskers eating a Foxhead Shrimp" comes to mind...

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."

Best to keep an open mind lest you wish to start going in circles or banging your head against a wall.

That goes for everyone.
