I would imagine its the extrasolar researchers themselves. I posted three links where data on these worlds is catalogued and updated pretty regularly. Going to the links will probably provide more info on this question if you require additional details.

http://exoplanet.eu/

http://www.extrasolar.net/

http://planetquest.jpl.nasa.gov/index.cfm

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen...and those who do not know what happened.

JUst to let you know, the second one (extrasolar.net) is quite out of date, only 160 planets, last updated over a year ago.

The totals for the other sites are 246 (exoplanet.eu) and 231 (jpl planetquest) so are reasonably up to date.
exoplanet.eu shows the date of their latest count right next to the total, it was updated yesterday.

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Thanks MeteorWayne.

It is difficult to try & get a proper up to date list.

I will check out your suggested site later.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Actually it was qso1's suggestions. I just noticed that one appears to be an unmaintained site as I was adding them to my permanent links.

Have to have the latest total for Public night at the NJAA next Saturday

But the Krell forgot one thing John. I thought this was interesting from the exoplanet.eu site.

Note the totals add up to more than 246 since some have been detected by multiple mthods.

Of course further deails are available on the site.

"
Candidates detected by radial velocity

200 planetary systems
update : 12 July 2007 234 planets
25 multiple planet systems

Candidates detected by transit
21 planetary systems
update : 05 July 2007 21 planets
0 multiple planet systems

Candidates detected by microlensing
4 planets
update : 10 June 2006

Candidates detected by imaging
4 planets
update : 24 July 2006

Candidates pulsar planets
2 planetary systems
update : 15 October 2006 4 planets
1 multiple planet systems

- Unconfirmed, controversial or retracted planets
update : 06 July 2007

- Candidate "cluster" and "free-floating" planets
update : 31 August 2006

- Stars with no planets found (yet)
update : 27 May 2001

But the Krell forgot one thing John.
