Hello! Im curious, i just looked out my window and i see this weird star flashing different colors. Like white blue green red. It flashes very quickly. Im in tennessee, i noticed it at about 10:20 pm and it hasnt moved an inch. Its been 10 minutes. I asked my mom what it was she said jokingly its a ufo! So i asked my brother and he said it might be a sattelite. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Edit ive been doing some research on it and it looks like someone else on these forums have noticed it also!

http://uplink.space.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=askastronomer&Number=49100&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=7&o=0&fpart=#

Edit: Ok i found it i think.

http://lnx.astrocampania.org/galleria/albums/Comete/73P-B_2006April07_GuiSos.jpg

What direction is it in?

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen...and those who do not know what happened.

Odds are, it's sirius.

It's twinkling, like other stars, because of turbulant air between you and it. It's a weaker version of what water in a pool does when it creates the ribbons of light on the pool bottom (or the distorted images when you look up from underwater).

Sirius, and a few other stars, are bright enough that you can notice the shift in color as the light is spread out into a rainbow, then flashed across your eyes.

--------------------SaiphMOD@gmail.com -------------------

"This is my Timey Wimey Detector. Goes "bing" when there's stuff. It also fries eggs at 30 paces, wether you want it to or not actually. I've learned to stay away from hens: It's not pretty when they blow" -- The Tenth Doctor, "Blink"
