I been observing a bright star or planet (it is the brightest of all, it was seen with the naked eye) on the AZ sky on July 4 th and 5th 2009 around 11:30 pm and 12 am Arizona time. Does anybody knows what it is?.

Welcome to Space.com

That is the planet Jupiter. It is quite bright right now (Only the Sun, Moon, and Venus are brighter) as it approaches opposition in mid August when it will be even a tiny bit brighter. At that time it will rise at sunset, be due south at 1 AM and set around sunrise.

BTW, this topic belongs in Ask the Astronomer, so I will move it there.
