One of the goals is to break confinement to Planet Earth, and space exploration is a necessary step
towards this goal.
Biologically speaking, the Solar System is a big snore if Earth is excluded.
If Virgo Supercluster (VHS can stand for Virgo Home Supercluster) is not vast enough, Laniakea Supercluster
alone is almost beyond our scope.

At the moment, alpha Centauri is beyond our scope. Some might argue the moons of the gas giants, or even the planet Mars likewise. Missions may follow in decades but the human race will probably self-extinguish before terraforming anything becomes possible.

A few looming crises are happening and we are NOT resolving them fast enough.

And we should resolve them. Cat is just saying, that if humans continue the things they are doing, they will surely self-extinguish themselves.

Even for Earth, we are infinitely powerless, and Earth can easily eliminate all signs of our existence if we are gone for 5000 years.
Life After People impressed me quite a bit.

This is the topic. I would say, as a species, we are a destructive pestilence that cannot help but contaminate all within our reach.

Thank whatever you will that we are never likely to last long enough to get past the Moon (in persona) and pray (or whatever you wish) that we do not have the ability to cause any serious damage beyond our (otherwise uninhabited) Solar System.

Cat :)
