Which has been able to be the motive by which we have failed to do contact with another extraterrestrial intelligence, not even have been able to find traces of some type of life, I I believe that I have found the motive and wanted that they gave me their opinion:

Which is the most powerful phenomenon of the universe. ..? The GRBs. (Gamma Ray Burst or Crashes of gamma Rays).
With what frequency they occur, how much they last and where they are observed. ..? Two times for day, they last between milliseconds and 10 seconds and is observed them anywhere of the universe.
What the cause, which is its origin…? Unknown, when it is located them, already they finished, and in its place not TO HAVE SWUM.
Reason has not been able to be observed them? Because they occur al chance, in any side of the universe, seconds last, to see it an instrument should be focused previously, impossible thing.
Which is its effect. ..?
Among all, that are devastators, one is emphasized: It STERILIZES
And reason in the Land, yes the Life exists. ..?
Because something it protects it that up to now itself has not been found in any part of the universe: OZONE.

Then if ourselves we have not communicated with another extraterrestrial intelligence we should investigate the possibility that there be not another intelligence in the universe save the human, that is to say, that ours, IS THE UNICA FORM OF LIFE.

And permit me an a personal reflection :

An infinite Universe for an infinite Brain and a mechanism to leave them alone…

Sphynx

Welcome to SDC, an intriguing post BTW.

First off, I'll address as best I can the reasons we haven't yet found life in the Universe.

First off, project SETI. A project ongoing for 46 years and one designed to listen for possible artificial signal emanation/transmission including radio signals. No positive results so far other than a couple of spurious detections of unverifiable signals.

Its only been within recent years that instruments have become advanced enough to allow for larger portions of the sky to be scanned. Even then, two major problems. One is that the ETs (Extra Terrestrials) may be emanating some type of signal we do not yet have the means to detect.

Two, we have only touched the tip of the iceberg. Within just our galaxy alone there are estimated to be 400 plus billion stars to listen to, which is why we need a larger survey capability.

Extrasolar planet search:
You mentioned ozone detection. This would be something we would be looking for on an earthlike world orbiting another star. Problem is, we have yet to detect such a world because our ability to detect them has not yet advanced to that point. This is why we have not seen ozone.

As for gamma ray bursts. A number of them have been detected and if one went off within our galaxy, Eta Carinae may well be a gamma ray burster if it were to go fully hypernova and at just 7,500 light years distant, it could end life on earth and other planets that could be within 20,000 or so light years of it. Pretty much nearly the whole galaxy but, this is still largely theoretical.

Are we the only beings in the Universe, could be. If so, we will never be able to prove it. If some day we find life similar to us elsewhere, then the former argument is forever dead.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. Those who make it happen, those who watch it happen...and those who do not know what happened.

I would only say that belief that we are alone is unwarranted scepticism flying in the face of simple fact, that we are here and so others have to be here, somewhere, simple as. We can be dead certain of it.
But we may never ever hear of them.
Anybody with some perspective on distances in universe has to acknowledge and accept that fact. And those who lack the perspective can believe anything.

vanDivX

If there are only us, it will be a big waste of space.

I believe that we are not alone, although there is no prove for any life existing beyond our plante. As we can exist on this bule plante, there must be many other kinds of life exist in this immense universe.

I have watched the movie "Contact" which is based on the story by Carl Sagan, a great american amstronomer. I think there will be one day that we find we are not alone.
We are listening and waitting all the time...
The only thing remian is that will us stick on our belife, inspite of all the misunderstanding and difficulties. One day, we will see the whole picture of this beautiful universe, we only need some imagination.

Lucia
Hi Fragrance, welcome aboard!

I agree that we seek ET because we are curious -- and also a bit lonely...

I don't buy into the argument that life is unique; the universe is likely teaming with life! Unfortunately; it takes ideal circumstances and a great deal of time for advanced lifeforms to evolve; so most of the life we find out there will be various types of pond scum, IMHO.

There are indications that life occurs wherever the most minimal conditions are met, but we haven't defined what those precise minimal conditions are yet.

"Who are we? We find that we live on an insignificant planet of a humdrum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people."

- Carl Sagan (1934 - 1996)
Hello, harmonicaman

Thanks for your warm welcoming.

Some times, while looking at the sky, with the beautiful glittering stars, we feel we are so small. And thinking, how great the life is, I mean, life in this universe, on this lovely bule plante.
The chance for life to occur is slight, but we have trillions of stars, which makes it possible for life to occur and develop. And Drake's Equation :
N = R* × fp × ne × fl × fi × fc × L
We still get between 10,000 and one million radio transmitting civilizations existing in this galaxy.

Some day, we will reseive the message for those little green men which says: "Hi, life on earth, how does our galaxy look like in your position?"

Regards,
Lucia

¿It is prudent to walk to the shouts by the Universe saying: “ Here we are. ..! ¡ Come, we are friends. ..!”

I say,¿ how do we know that THEY (if there is "they”) are a civilization advanced and peaceful. ..?
¿As we know that they are us a civilization advanced, but aggressive and rapacious. ..? ¿As we know that to attract them we are not sentencing to the ruin to our civilization?

Something increiblemente ingenuous, and almost foolish, underlies in the petulant philosophy to notify al cosmos "¡Here, here, we are!".

We are acting in the same form that Moctezuma in 1519, who notified by its priests of the imminent return of Quetzacoatl and desiring to hurry so great event, had the genial idea of lighting the road of the God and to hurry the festival.

Then it commissioned to a group of notable so that they embarked upon the Real Canoe and you left al step of the God, that for that epoch was meeting its ships in the Hispaniola.

They found it, gave some insignificant gift of gold, the map to arrive along the way but short to Tenochtitlan, and they told him:" ¡ they See Magnificent God!", "¡we expect You with the open arms. ..!”

And Cortes, was...

Sphynx
vanDivX:
unwarranted scepticism flying in the face of simple fact,

Me:
Take a closer look at what I actually said and bear in mind ET existence or lack thereof is not yet an established fact technically.

Heres the fact:
We don't know.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. If an advanced ET is within say, 75 light years of us, we have already announced our presence by the signals emanated on a daily basis and will continue to do so which will widen the range year after year.

My borrowed quote for the time being:

There are three kinds of people in life. lets not overdo the praise, your sentences are convoluted to the point where one might get just a rough sense of what you want to say, I suggest you read English and read and read and read again and then some more, that is my best recomendation to you.

I don't believe in this analogy of America and Spanish conquest of it when it is simply translated into a universal rule of 'more advanced civilization meets less advanced' and it ends up inevitably like it ended those centuries ago, IMO that is a falacy.

It totally overlooks that todays most advanced civilization (AC) on earth now did not step directly out of dark ages of mankind and there is no reason to believe that any AC capable of interplanetary travel would have likevise stepped directly out of some dark ages of its own and therefore might behave like our Spanish Conquistadors (spelling). That's because if that was the case, it wouldn't be capable of such feats (like visiting us).

In fact, AC on the level capable of any form of galactic scale travel (travelling to neighbouring stars) simply cannot be primitive in any sense of word and certainly not as some B rated science fiction films would paint them. That is, like some savages harnesing advanced technologies. That is just plain nonsense harbored by fools of which even today there are aplenty in every country on Earth. That is why this fear of aliens persists or at the very least is being repeated again and again in parrot like fashion.
Also that idea of of science being held under thumb of some dictator and serving him and giving him spaceships and all that, that's nonsense as well. Despite some indication to contrary, like Germans in the second world war and Russians in the second half of last century, it would all have gone nowhere in the long run if they got upperhand in those days, dictatorships always go nowhere in the long run. Vitness those countless dictatorships around the world, where do they go, I'd say backwar
