I've seen 2 posts in one thread where youtube links people have tried to post have not worked.

(I can tell they are youtubes by hitting edit and seeing what the dysfunctional square is)

Works fine for me.

It's probably a security setting on MW's end.

Yesterday was Patch Tuesday for Microsoft. Security settings for IE and Windows Firewall may need to be checked as well as running the usual gambit of checks for compatibility with third-party apps.

Maybe it has something to do with the Security patch?

MS Patch Tuesday: Another critical font engine vulnerability

The first Microsoft patch for 2010 is out, providing cover for a solitary vulnerability in the way Windows handles EOT (Embedded OpenType) fonts.

It might be because some Youtube links, for whatever reason, end in "feature=related" and I've noticed these can't be embedded (at least, I haven't found a way.) For example, this one I put in the Music thread a few weeks ago:

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=en-GB&v=PR6pHtiNT_k&feature=related[/youtube]

The only way to place that link so it can be clicked on and played (at Youtube and not embedded) is to remove the Youtube tags ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=GB&hl=e ... re=related

Or like this: Louis Jordan ~ "Caldonia"

If a Youtube link just ends in "A7F2X3rSSCU" (or similar characters) it can be embedded here, for example:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7F2X3rSSCU with the "Youtube" tags around it ...

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7F2X3rSSCU[/youtube]

This is not new to SDC. We had some problems posting YouTube during the holidays, then the next night everything was fine.

This is correct. You can edit any Youtube URL so that it conforms to the requirements of the BBCode. Always make sure the URL consists of the following, in order:

  • watch
  • ?v=
  • A7F2X3rSSCU

This all equals "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7F2X3rSSCU", of course, which turns into:

[youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7F2X3rSSCU[/youtube]
(thank you, Smersh!)

Do not include anything after a series of numbers and letters, like that which is displayed in the final bullet point above. The BBCode is set up for this URL construct only. Anything else will result in a sad trombone.
