Yeah, sorry, blame me for going sideways on the diversity issue. As for you saying nobody's disagreeing in a profound way with your line of thought: I haven't said anything because at this point this issue is unknowable. We're into so many tiers of speculation, shaky assumption on shaky assumption, that I just throw up my hands and say God knows.

Differential gravity affecting a planetary evolutionary rate, gosh you'd think that would be true. But the example you're pushing is in the direction of increasing the chance of Martian life. No offense, but to me that sniffs of a possible bias. I, too, would like for there to be life on Mars. I'm willing to look for scientific ways that could be, but I'm trying to use mental discipline to not let that affect my objectivity. If I am not successful in that, I might miss seeing something else of great importance.
Graciously thank you.

I won't post nonsense. I really won't. Well, maybe when I'm in my smartass mode, but you can tell the difference. I actually studied this stuff in College, so I have some concept of what I'm speaking of.

And I don't mind butting heads with you. From such collisions derive high-energy products.

Here's a good example of a possible perturbation: Shoemaker-Levy. We're fairly certain it didn't originate in cis-Jovian space, so something perturbed it into it's ill-fated trajectory. Where did it originate? Interstellar space (a capture)? The Asteroid Belt (implying a retrograde trajectory)? Where?

I was priveleged enough to be working at my school's Observatory during the crash. The weather generally sucked, but I did get to see the results of one impact...the orange, dome-like glow, as the impact site moved around the limb of the planet.

Differential Diagnosis: "I am both amused and annoyed that you think I should be less stubborn than you are."
