ExoMars (Exobiology on Mars) is an astrobiology program by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Russian space agency Roscosmos. The goals of ExoMars are to search for signs of past life on Mars, investigate how the Martian water and geochemical environment vary, investigate atmospheric trace gases and their sources and by doing so demonstrate the technologies for a future Mars sample-return mission. The first part of the program is a mission launched in 2016 that placed the Trace Gas Orbiter into Mars orbit and released the Schiaparelli EDM lander. The orbiter is operational but the lander crashed on the planet's su20 when the Kazachok lander will deliver the Rosalind Franklin rover on the surface, supporting a science mission that is expected to last into 2022 or beyond.

Wasting time and resources on such a pointless mission reduces resources that could be used for relevant productive missions. Clearly there is no current life on Mars, even microbes. Finding out whether or not there were microbes on Mars in the distant past can wait until humans are living there and can do that sort of research faster, better, and far FAR less expensive.

Sample return missions would be insanely expensive and serve no useful purpose. Any information required in preparation for Mars Colony Missions can be done robotically.

I THINK A 3D_PRINTER IS THE BEST WAY FORWARD FOR PROBES ON MARS WE CAN HAVE MACHINES BUILDING MACHINES, AND REPAIRING EACH-OTHER AND THAT ALSO GIVES US A CHANCE TO BUILD A PLACE TO LIVE IN NOW FOR WHEN WE LAND ON MARS IN THE FUTURE.
Construct robotic cargo vessels that can be sent to Mars ahead of time. They can be sent via the economy route, the most efficient Hohhman Transfer Orbit. The cargo vessels can filled with supplies sufficient to supply the colonists for 10 years.. Each craft can also be prefitted with basic plumbing, electrical wiring, LED lighting, various fittings, air locks, and hardware so the empty vessels can be used as habitats. The cargo vessels can be sent well ahead of the colonists to the chosen site. When the colonists arrive, they can remove cargo containers from the vessels and store the supplies in inflated tents to protect from Martian fines. The now empty hulls can be used as habitats. They can be interconnected with or without airlocks between them.
