Best Method - "remote" detection of living planets

I'm talking about some way to 'scan' a planet/star system for signs of abundant life. Think planets with lots of plants/animals, up to advanced civilizations.<br /><br />What type of equipment and or techniques might we develop in the next 100 years or so?<br /><br />Will just more powerful telescopes -- like a Hubble x 1000... x 10000... x 100000 -- do the trick?<br /><br /><br />
