Contact is a good 'space' film. The opening sequence is brilliant; the zoom-out shot from Earth to Universe. Pretty impressive. Also when Elie Arroway travels to Vega and beyond, the shots of the planets and stars, although viewable for only a couple of seconds are breath taking. "Poetry!..." Damn right it is.

I agree.

Contact didn't get the raves or draw the crowds - not enough "shoot-em-up" scenes; but for graphics and the dream of a peaceful conquest of space and time - this one takes top honors.

Think of how many religions attempt to validate themselves with prophecy.
Think of how many people rely on these prophecies, however vague, however unfulfilled, to support or prop up their beliefs.
Yet has there ever been a religion with the prophetic accuracy and reliability of science?
Carl Sagan

Definately a great movie, but I liked Sagans' book even more.
