My "physical" cause of the transition between the cycles is mathematical singularity - zero in the denominator, and a square root of negative after that. How physical is it for you in comparison with Penrose's conformal mapping if it happens quite soon, not in the infinitely distant future?

If time is causally related to the expansion of space and expansion is accelerating then the passage of time is accelerating. This implies time is approaching infinity.
In such a case eons will eventually happen close to instantly (as measured by some external function beyond spacetime). Lol, as time speeds up we could find ourselves dead quite soon
