Conservationists raise alarm over Air Force plan to land SpaceX Starships on bird sanctuary atoll

I think I am on the conservationists' side for this one.

What is the actual benefit of landing 100 tons of cargo on an island that is "about 825 miles (1,325 kilometers) southwest of Hawaii"? To use it, it would need to be flown or shipped elsewhere. And, the "reusable" StarShips that do the deliveries would need to be shipped back to Texas or Florida, otherwise they would be scrap left on the atoll.

This seems more like the military wanting a site to use for process development only.

If that is the case, why not land somewhere in the middle of Australia, where there is plenty of room in a desert habitat?
