The science channel will be running Carl Sagan's Cosmos series starting next week. Although there is no new information contained in the series as it originally aired over two decades ago they have added new graphics which helps make it seem more current. I will still watch it altough I have seen it several times.
Bob DeWoody

Actually there was an episode on Christmas night. It was great! Looking forward to seeing the full series again.
No amount of belief makes something a fact" - James Randi

I think the series has been burned onto DVD's and can be purchased or rented. As I stated earlier the show does not contain any new revelations about the universe but the presentation is superb, sort of like the Planet Earth series but for the universe.
Bob DeWoody

Thanks for the link. The DVD set will be a perfect gift to someone starting in astronomy.
While I agree the DVD makes a nice gift, Cosmos is now very dated. No dark energy, no extra solar planets, and a much lesser understanding of dark matter. Astronomy is moving very quickly these days.

i don't know if you have noticed this, kids, most of them, are all naturally interested in space. Something happens between the ages of 12 to 16 and they are no more interested in either astronomy or space!

Cosmos DVD set may be the only medicine to stop that convertion

As for updating the program, I think Planetory Society should give some thought to it

Getting my 10 year old nephew a telescope has helped his interest in space ans science, though perhaps only slightly.
