There have some conspiracy theory folks who have opined that COVID was just such a thing (alien origin) and even a some in the "5G cellular systems did it" camp.

Good question, just be aware it can quickly go off the rails.
Very good point! I'll try and keep the train on the rails! Also, people thought COVID came from alien origin? Wow, people are desperate to find out how COVID came to be!

Interesting insights on the presence of organic matter on recently tested asteroid samples appear in "Seeking the Origins of Life" from Queenie Chan in All About Space, Issue 116 May 2021.
An interview with Queenie Chan by Daisy Dobrijevic with a main author of the references below, which are all recent (March 2021.Itokawa is an S-type or Stony asteroid which is not supposed to be rich in carbon. Being stoney and silica rich giving rise to "ordinary chondrite" meteorites.

"It's very interesting to think that the stony meteorite has got some carbon-rich material that should really be coming from C-type asteroids."

At a minimum level of complexity, yes. That is true because it negates the possibility of any investigative tests.
