Hi there H2Ouniverse.

Welcome to SDC & thank you very much for your post.

This is a most fascinating subject & must be researched much further.

The Cassini team have done right to include a very close Dione encounter in an extended mission.

Yes the Enceladus plumes were detected pre-optically, but not really as plumes, rather as an 'atmosphere' over the antarctic region of Enceladus, interacting with Saturn's magnetosphere. The plume nature, was confirmed optically, by Cassini.

Regarding Ariel, I am doing MUCH research on this fascinating moon of Uranus & I may be onto something new. We may have to wait until after September, if my request for UV Hubble observations are accepted. If not, I can use other means.

A great shame that New Horizons 2 did not happen (Jupiter, Uranus & the KBO).

Anyway, please if you find anything, please post it or PM me.

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world. Hi phumanchuzi,

Digging up this old thread might help, answer the Dione part of your question.

This mosaic of Dione was taken by Cassini & was put together by our member
Anthmartian. This is one of my favourite images of Dione EVER. Anthmartian has shown
the various surface terrains on Dione extremely well.

Large image by Anthmartian.

Also Anthmartian has created this amazing colour high resolution image of a small region on Dione.

This image shows extremely well, the chemical staining, as well as cleaner ice (my opinion
anyway), which to me says proof of very recent & maybe ongoing activity on this fascinating moon of Saturn.

This weird feature on Dione, looks more like a cryocaldera than anything impact IMO. Looks a lot
like Sippur Sulcus on Jupiter's giant moon Ganymede.

Perhaps on Dione, it it an impact, but cryovolcanic 'lavas' filled the old crater. Perhaps
evidence of activity, not so long ago???

Andrew Brown.

"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world.
