Hi there H2Ouniverse.<br /><br />Welcome to SDC & thank you very much for your post.<br /><br />This is a most fascinating subject & must be researched much further.<br /><br />The Cassini team have done right to include a very close Dione encounter in an extended mission.<br /><br />Yes the Enceladus plumes were detected pre-optically, but not really as plumes, rather as an 'atmosphere' over the antarctic region of Enceladus, interacting with Saturn's magnetosphere. The plume nature, was confirmed optically, by Cassini.<br /><br />Regarding Ariel, I am doing MUCH research on this fascinating moon of Uranus & I may be onto something new. We may have to wait until after September, if my request for UV Hubble observations are accepted. If not, I can use other means.<br /><br />A great shame that New Horizons 2 did not happen (Jupiter, Uranus & the KBO).<br /><br />Anyway, please if you find anything, please post it or PM me.<br /><br />Andrew Brown. <div class="Discussion_UserSignature"> <p><font color="#000080">"I suddenly noticed an anomaly to the left of Io, just off the rim of that world.
