Replying to:

IMHO, it's not just the cost.To me, it's insane to plan such events in "old" cities like NY or London. It's a logistical nightmare. On a good day, the transportations systems are bursting at the seams. Subways or the Tube, are packed with working people. Streets are jammed to the max, as they are generally small and narrow. IIRC, London has instituted a tax of some kind to cut down on cars in the core city. New York just tried to do that, but politicians being wimps, they backed off from the whining of the votors. Wise politically, but horrible for transportation and the environment. So how do you shove in several million Olympic Visitors? Who knows. We actually should start a new thread discussing this very issue, the logistics of the Olympics in London. We're in the process of hijacking this one. Or not, perhaps the 2012 London Olympics is the disaster the Maya were predicting!! It should be fascinating to watch the London officials scramble as they try and implement the nightmare they have foisted on themselves.I'll look through the Fora and see what I think would be the best one for this discussion. You UK folks should think about that as well, I'll leave it up to one of you to start the thread since it's ultimately what you will have to deal with.Cheers,Waynefromtheothersideofthepond.
Posted by MeteorWayne

Cheers, Waynefromtheothersideofthepond. Got this off youtube...

Questions :
What will happen to our planet when 2012 approaches?
What do astronomers have to say about this date?

If you look into the sky you can see the outline of the Milky Way galaxy in the constellation Sagittarius.
Deep within the center of the Milky Way is a black hole called Sgr.A.
Stars revolve around the black hole hidden in the center of the Milky Way.
When this alignment happens our planet will be bombarded with the most deadly gamma rays ever found
emitting from our Milky Way galaxy, 3.5 trillion electron volts.
We will be in this gamma ray stream for one whole year?!
The other planets in our solar system are being affected by Global Warming too.
Possibly because our solar system is getting closer to the galactic equator where trillions of electron volts are spewing out of the dark rift.
Physicists find evidence for highest energy photons ever detected from the Milky Way's equator.
Physicists at nearly a dozen research institutions including New York University, have discovered evidence
for very high energy gamma rays emitting from the Milky Way, marking the highest energies ever detected from the galactic equator.
They detected a signal along the galactic equator region and interpreted it as arising from gamma rays with a median energy of 3.5 trillion electron volts, or 3500 times the mass-energy of a proton.
Previous satellite experiments have seen gamma ray emissions along the galactic equator reaching up to energies of only 30 billion electron volts

What does that mean?
Well imagine this, our suns particle energy is around 500 thousand electron volts.
what they found being emitting from the galactic core is up to 7 million times the energy of our sun and traveling near the speed of light.
This is the reason why the temperature on each planet in our solar system is increasing.

Conclusion :

We are going to align with the galactic equator and be able to view the galactic core entirely through the dark rift opening on December 21, 2012.
This alignment will indeed cause increased temperatures on every object in our solar system including our sun. That much radiation directly is believed to be extremely lethal.
Physicist say that gamma rays do not emit light so the only way to observe them is when they hit an object and heat it up.
The research team, which includes nearly 40 physicists reported that Milagro, positioned at an altitude of 8600 feet in the Jemez Mountains detected a signal along the galactic equator region.
So if gamma rays cannot be detected until they hit an object that would explain why our planet is getting warmer.
The observatory claims to have detected these gamma rays meaning they are hitting the earth already.

The world will not end by 2012, but something will most likely have happened then, as the start of the tribulation time.

Lastly from my part of mind...im a muslim and in the holy quran is stated that doomsday falls on a friday. it doesnt say the date but i guess if u jumble everything up...its trying to make some sense somehow,

The perspective earth will have of the galactic core in a few years will vary not one whit from what we see now....so there is no need to fear massive galactic core death beams of gamma radiation.

The mayan calander ends at 2012, IIRC, because of the way their numbering system works, it's akin to our 1000. It was just a nice place to stop.

I have some good new for you. Basically, every single bit of the information above is absolute nonsense. There are a couple of accurate items, like the blackhole in the center of the galaxy, but the doomsday stuff is simply made up garbage.

You underestimate. We had the 2002 Winter Olympics here in Salt Lake City. SLC is quite a bit less crowded than NYC, with normally bad traffic, but nothing like NYC. The Winter Olympics is not nearly so large as the Summer Olympics.

What we had was Hell. I stayed away from downtown (my office was downtown at the time) for 2 weeks. Our group literally abandoned the office for 2 weeks and worked elsewhere.

NYC with an Olympics would make Hell look pretty good.

Welcome to SDC. This assertion has been thoroughly addressed in a recent thread...I'll try and find it. Meanwhile, vogon, I need the dead horse animation.

For good explanation of the Mayan demise and the link to 2012 (or thereabouts) one ought to read The Annihilators by Donald Hamilton. It is number 20 in the Matt Helm series.

That book is probably as scientifically valid as anything that you might find on the upcoming 2012 apocalypse (which is to say totally invalid), and it is a fun read.

It helps a little for the neophytes out there to be told that the Matt Helm of the books bears no resemblance whatever to the character played by Dean Martin in the movies. Matt is bit more hard-boiled, to say the least.

Now, see, I've come to the conclusion that there really WAS a conspiracy with the ancient Mayans. And they really WERE that smart.

The Mayan Calendar ends in 2012 as something of a practical joke. It was their intent to drive our Newage (rhymes with "sewage") types bonkers. Like putting an idiot in a round room and telling him there's a penny in the corner...

Yup - their whole plan was to cause vast amounts of gnashing of teeth.

But now that I've let the proverbial cat out of the further proverbial sack, you can all move on and go back to whatever other madcap pseudo-theory-of-the-day has been languishing.

Those crazy Mayans. No telling WHAT stunts they'd pull after some hooch and a few peyote buttons.

Did the Mayan calendar predict their own demise at the hands of the Spanish Conquistadors? No. This alignment happens every 26,000 years, according to several posts on this thread and others. Did the world end 26,000 years ago when this particular alignment happened before? I don't know, I'll have to go to wikipedia to confirm. Silly.

Well, mate, you didn't tell us which youtube video, and any that suggest 2012 is of any special significance are unscientific garbage, as has been clearly demonstrated if you read the first dozen pages of this topic.

If predictions were possible, lotto tickets here I come...the way I see it, if we're all doomed, what can we do ? The answer is nothing. It's too late to start terraforming Mars.. so if were NOT doomed, it's back to work...if you have a job! I'll admit I am an incurable optimist, and I find this discussion rather dismal, though I did laugh when I read about the "hooch and peyote" theory!

Could earth end in 2012? ya but it's unlikely since it's been here with life on it for like a billion years. Could the anicient Maya's have know about some meteor earth will hit? Yep, their math and calculations of hevenly bodies blows me away far more then the various piles of stones stacked around the world including their own.

What I think are better questions to ask are
1: Is there some sort of debri field in orbit between the sun's gravitational center and the galaxy's gravitational center that the earth will pass through?

2: What effect will the gravity change have on the human mind? I'e heard experts these days often say the full moon has no effect on the human mind. Yet a lot of cops dealing with people mentally on the edge say other wise.

3: Does our military have a way to deal with some meteor/comit strikes into our planet? I believe they do despite of whatever NASA is and whatever the UN dictates. I'm not looking for conformation because the moment they did you'd have all the leftist out there screaming for it to be either dismantled or given over to UN control. Two ideas which are dumber then dumb. I have faith in science and humanity

4: Numerous governments around the world have stock piles of natural non hybred non genetically alterd seeds in cold storage complexes. There are many reasons for this but they're to humanity what the second amend is to the US, the last fail safe.

Personaly I find it odd how much our enviornment effects us and yet how easily we dismiss things that could change us. It'd only take the smallest of nudges to our brain functions to cause numerous mental imbalances. I'd point something out but it's not very PC and it'd be 100x more diffcult to get through some heads then a more basic theory I've been trying to show a few atheists over on free space.
So live your life, have some common things to keep you alive for a couple weeks like every home should have anyways for the slim chance of a natural disastor incase if trouble ever comes your way. Simply keep your head and use your logic to guide you and your emotions as no more then a warning alarm. Make sure you can stand the sight of yourself in the mirror. We all do die, what matters is how you lived up to your humanity.
