If they screw this movie up, they will be "obliterated"

I assume they are going to un-robot Klaatu so that you can recognize who the actor is.

They are bad. Very bad {finger wagging}

But the Krell forgot one thing John. Monsters. They may be obliterated for even touching a classic as beloved as this one

I can see it now: "Your choice is like totally simple. Join us and live in righteous peace, or pursue your present course and face some heinous obliteration. We'll be like totally waiting for your answer dudes. The decision rests with you. Party on dudes!"

So, again we are defeated. No.

It can't be.

Nobody could be that stupid.

Not even producers trying to make a quick buck off a classic...

It can't happen.

<endless denial ensues />

Seriously though, they've destroyed it before it even got off the ground.

Freakin' Keano is going to be Klaatu? WTF?

I will never be able to watch that movie now. I just can't. Everytime I see him I can't get over the expectation of him saying "Dude." It's impossible for me. Klaatu does not say "Dude." Ever. Nor would he ever say "Dude." Klaatu's diction is "dudeless." I refuse. I will not pay to see someone make Klaatu say "Dude."

I'd rather see them cast Vin Diesel as Klaatu than have to stomach Keano. Yes, it's that bad.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

This {emphassis added by moi} from the link in the OP is enough to scare me ...

Twentieth Century Fox has set Keanu Reeves to star in "The Day the Earth Stood Still," its re-imagining of the 1951 Robert Wise-directed sci-fi classic.

and ....

The 1951 film's premise, a response to the rise of the Cold War after WWII, is being updated, and the film will use advances in visual effects.

What now .... a new premise based upon the rise of religious fundamentalism ?

I say it's scorched earth time !!! ugh .............

-----------------------------------------------------

Ask not what your Forum Software can do do on you,

Ask it to, please for the love of all that's Holy, STOP !

The re-imagining could well be a return to the original concept as presented in the story "Farewell to the Master" by Harry Bates, founding editor of Astounding Stories magazine.

I posted the link to an online version a few months ago, but if anyone missed it here it is again;

"Farewell to the Master"

As different from DTESS as "Who Goes There?" was from the original "The Thing"

Thanks for that! Gonna read it tonight.

Ah, glanced over it. Yup, I remember that now. You're right. It was very, very different. Good point! We can hope that's the avenue they choose.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

I read that when you posted the link the first time. It is a good idea for a movie but it seems like it will be pretty tough to make it like Farewell to the Master with Keanu Reeves as Klatu. Too much playing dead to interest a big star.

hehehe. talking about "Who goes there?", did you ever read "Who goes here?" by Bob Shaw?.

Absolutely brilliant and funny riff on the Foreign Legion set in space. Top notch, AND wise in parts too.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Shaw

Last I checked he specialized in the first and was barely hanging on to the other

Maybe I'm imagining things, but I seem to remember a comic book adaptation of "Fairwell To The Master". I remember in the story about someone examining a series of photographs of a green robot and he could tell from the photos that the robot was moving, but very slowly. Also, from what I remember, the spaceship looked like a big orange pill cut into quarters.

Does anyone remember this, or am I just making stuff up in my little mind?
