I've never played EVE Online. However, I have kept up with it since it came out. I read articles, watch interviews and even occassionally take a look at the map to see how the various factions are doing.

In my humble opinion..

Eve Online is the most accurate simulation of a free-form "true to life" World political/economic environment that has ever been devised outside of a lab.

Eve Online promises more sense of group accomplishment than any other online game to date.

Eve Online has the most devoted fanbase of any other MMORPG still in publication. ("Still in publication" had to be inserted because there are still some diehard UO fans playing on shards out there.)

Eve Online has achieved more quality per production point than any other online game, ever. (IOW, a small company created a powerhouse that the rest of the genre respects immensely.)

I am a big fan of CCP and Eve Online and I haven't ever played it. I just keep up with what's going on and where they're going with it. It's something in my blood; Learning how systems are constructed and how they interact with other complex systems. Of course, I could learn a lot more if I played the darn thing.

Of all the online games I've actually played, EVE Online is the one I regret not playing the most... If that makes sense.

Here's the thing about EO PVP in a nutshell; You don't necessarily have to PVP but you'll miss out on a great time if you don't. Space is quartered off into security zones. 0,0 space is the most dangerous. However, inner space (forget the numbers) is heavily patrolled and PVP results in big giant nasty ships coming in and rendering antagonists into their component atoms... or something like that. In between these security levels, you'll find space that is somewhat patrolled, more heavily patrolled or less patrolled than the inner core. The big money is to be made out in 0,0 space
I put on my robe and wizard hat...
