I've never played it but I have studied it. Weird huh?

Every once-in-awhile I take a look at it, read the latest happenings and such. I think it is one of the most successful games in its genre. Not because of the numbers either. The devs wanted to create a world in which the players were the main actors, characters and powers. They succeeded. No other game has given players the individual power to effect the world environment like Eve-Online. I find it fascinating. Sure, there are problems in the game and some of the character mechanics aren't friendly to new players. But, even with its faults, it's still one of the most revolutionary and successful MMORPGs out there. Definitely two-thumbs up for successful innovation in a genre that usually punishes anyone that strays too far from the standard model.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

This past summer I played Eve for a few months. I loved it, but lacked the time to play it. Or rather, my fiance would not approve. You really need a LOT of time to devote to it if you plan on progressing at all. The mining can take several hours a week if you want to get anywhere. And the training...who would have guessed that a single skill level would take 3 months in real time? Insane.

GREAT game if you have the time. Wish I did! It's addicting!

I played it for about a month. Never really got into it. I liked Earth & Beyond much better. I was sad to see that go and still look to see if anyones managed to make it work for a freeshard or something like that.

I have an answer for everything...you may not like the answer or it may not satisfy your curiosity..but it will still be an answer.
"Imagination is more important then Knowledge" ~Albert Einstien~
Guns dont kill people. There have been rumors that there might be, possibly, a Star Wars Galaxies II. I doubt it, but it could happen.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

IIRC, Star Wars Galaxies space combat is "twitch." That may be more of what you're looking for.
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

Ok, we have hashed over EQ vs WoW. But, has anyone tried Eve Online? The concept looks really interesting, but extremely PvPish, like Ultima Online set in space. UO's biggest problem was trying to control PvP, and make the game fun for newbies and veterans alike.

I would really like to try EO, but I don't want to spend the few $$$ and the many hours downloading the game just to find I hate it.

Vote Libertarian

I actually watched my buddy play it for a couple of hours about 4 years ago, give or take.

It seemed very boring, all he would do is ship cargo from place to place, taking a long time in between, and then get into some low action dog fights with other ships periodically.

Never seemed that it'd be a game for me.

I really don't know how deep it goes though.

I spoke to a serious player on another site. He had given up, because even the 20 + hours a week EVERY WEEK he spent in EVE, wasn't enough to stay ahead of the curve.

And he was in an alliance that got the short end of a fued, and all the years of work was undone while he slept.

PvP too much.

Google it. It's a pretty cool read.

A MMORG that allows you to do stuff like that is kinda cool, and kinda scary at the same time. But, it really encourages roleplaying.

Just like UO, it seems to favor the players that were there since day 1. That is what is good about EQ2. You don't have to compete against the vets when you sign on. However, because of this, EQ2 can get "stale" since it doesn't have the rich player-injected content.

Vote Libertarian

I did see where a swarm of guys got into the smallest ships that can carry guns, cloaked themselves, sent out some bait, and then fell like angry poodles onto a big warship that moved to snap up the bait. They filmed it, and put it up online for people to laugh, cause the guy thought he would fight it out, being in a powerful warship, but they took him down.

I will google your suggestion mate.

I've never played EVE Online. However, I have kept up with it since it came out. I read articles, watch interviews and even occassionally take a look at the map to see how the various factions are doing.

In my humble opinion..

Eve Online is the most accurate simulation of a free-form "true to life" World political/economic environment that has ever been devised outside of a lab.

Eve Online promises more sense of group accomplishment than any other online game to date.

Eve Online has the most devoted fanbase of any other MMORPG still in publication. ("Still in publication" had to be inserted because there are still some diehard UO fans playing on shards out there.)

Eve Online has achieved more quality per production point than any other online game, ever. (IOW, a small company created a powerhouse that the rest of the genre respects immensely.)

I am a big fan of CCP and Eve Online and I haven't ever played it. I just keep up with what's going on and where they're going with it. It's something in my blood; Learning how systems are constructed and how they interact with other complex systems. Of course, I could learn a lot more if I played the darn thing.

Of all the online games I've actually played, EVE Online is the one I regret not playing the most... If that makes sense.

Here's the thing about EO PVP in a nutshell; You don't necessarily have to PVP but you'll miss out on a great time if you don't. Space is quartered off into security zones. 0,0 space is the most dangerous. However, inner space (forget the numbers) is heavily patrolled and PVP results in big giant nasty ships coming in and rendering antagonists into their component atoms... or something like that. In between these security levels, you'll find space that is somewhat patrolled, more heavily patrolled or less patrolled than the inner core. The big money is to be made out in 0,0 space
I put on my robe and wizard hat...

It was the most fun I have ever had in a MMORPG. For about 2 weeks, we struck fear into Player Killers. Then, they just become lootless themselves and it became kind of a player-induced grind. But boy, that was fun.

Vote Libertarian
