Just as a side note: thought that business would require some opportunity, and that would be defined by business environment. There will have to be many things done before you start a business on Mars surface.

its not a business, its supposed to be major transit point from the inner solar system to the outer ends and from space to mars surface :)

how bout i just send you a little gift for xmas? paying you would not be asking for help now would it? ;)

we already have some business ideas im not sure what they are at the moment but ill ask the guy in charge of it later

i will look into your links in a bit mate, thanks again.

we will use rocket engines or something similiar for surface missions, solar sail equipped ships for cargo transports, and ion thrusters for people transports

What about space elevator or some variation ? It could probably be made with current materials, just don't know what would moons have to say about it...

A space elevator could also be constructed on other planets, asteroids and moons.

A Martian tether could be much shorter than one on Earth. Mars' surface gravity is 38% of Earth's, while it rotates around its axis in about the same time as Earth.[44] Because of this, Martian areostationary orbit is much closer to the surface, and hence the elevator would be much shorter. Exotic materials might not be required to construct such an elevator. However, building a Martian elevator would be a unique challenge because the Martian moon Phobos is in a low orbit, and intersects the Equator regularly (twice every orbital period of 11 h 6 min). A tether on Phobos may assist in journeys between Earth and Mars.

You can, it would take some energy to remain there, but from there you could find time to get specific information over a longer term then ant any other location. To stay at that point would still require input, so it's not ideal. You still would need engine fring to maintain an exact position and changes would show up it the data returned.

any ideas for the interface between rotating and non rotating parts of the settlement?

what is the average temperatures around Mars Orbit? say around 10,000km altitude?

One fuel for jet aircraft on Mars is "silane", according to Robert Zubrin it will burn like gasoline in the presence of compressed CO2. He claims it can be manufactured by decomposition and Sabatier reactions.

This is a mechanical engineering question, and i think your answer is hidden somewhere among the different kinds of bearings, which one exactly will depend on the architecture of your station.

I think, that you should approach this problem the same way as when calculating light intensity for solar panels. There's a couple K of background temp and the rest would be Sun. I don't remember any other significant celestial source of temp there.

That was by a fluke, i assure you :)
I think, that simplest solution is using solar to break water and at first use just hydrogen, oxygen, then nitrogen, carbon and other elements, for a compromise between what's simplest and already made, against what is available and easiest to make on site.
We are not ready for Mars yet in other words. At this time, this are steps in the air, but nice to talk about anyway, while building from the ground.
Silane, for example is not listed among generally used fuels, so it will need engine that is not here yet. You all know how fast is progress with a new type of a rocket engine :)
It is also toxic, annoying and i would think twice before having it in the same closed environment as me.
Currently used industrial processes for silane production require other minerals and cause more complications.

Silicium has a similar chemical properties to carbon, so i guess it could be made in Sabatier reaction
but i don't know what kind of a decomposition he had in mind, i just guess more complications.

I received finished paper, i am very impressed with it, i asked author if i can put it online, but have not received any answer yet. It is possible there's a problem with forum messaging, that's why i write this.
If there will be no reply from the author, i would like to put it on Net, but i am not so sure, if that's ok. I have not received any instructions that i can not, i am just going slow about it.
