But, I cant get into sdpaceflight at the moment. I hardly watched any of the mission. I cant seem to watch any of the spaceflight DVD's or read any of the spaceflight books at the moment. I cant get excited about it at the moment. I am worried that the unthinkabvler may be happening. That i am loosing interest. Why cant i concentrate and get myself motivated. I still love spaceflight but in the last four or so months I have have not really deleved into that amazing world that muchg. sometimes you just need a break from all the science stuff. Occasionally, my interest shifts away to something new, but it always comes back to the starting point, here.

Dear Ascan,

You need to give your lover time to adjust to the new circumstances. It can be hard to find out you no longer enjoy the taste of bananas. But hang in there and things will work out fine. For more information you can call my premium rate telephone line at only $10 per minute, all major credit cards accepted.

Don't Give up, Look up!

Uncle Grooble.

"Occasionally, my interest shifts away to something new, but it always comes back to the starting point, here."

Same here. There are times when I'm not that interested in space but I've yet to find something better and bigger so I always come back.

I doubt that will ever change.

In high school, I think they started us off with a couple of Ray Bradbury books - "The Illustrated Man" and "The Martian Chronicles"

A lot depends on what sort of literature you like. You may like adventure stuff, fantasy, or heavy science, and the things and authors you may like may differ.

Wayne

"1) Give no quarter; 2) Take no prisoners; 3) Sink everything." Admiral Jackie Fisher

As you can see there are many ways to approach this subject. There is the easy fun way to read these books, Andre Norton is one of my favorites there. She is said to write to the young in mind, but her subject matter and way of writing is easy and fun to read. I just found out about more books about a time-travel series she put out, and hope to be able to get a few of those newer ones about the further adventures of Ross Murdock and his friends.

I have enjoyed sci-fi in all areas my whole life, and that has included many different types of stories and books. I use them for enjoyment and escape from present challenges, and enjoy putting myself into the storyline.

The foundation series was enjoyable in college when I discovered them. That was where I also found out about Middle Earth and those lovely beings called Hobbits. They have also been a life long friend to know.

I now enjoy any time travel or idea books there are. Sphere is one of my favorites here, it is a suspense, mystery, time related of a sort, and a page turner to the end. I also plan to find out about Turtledove's books I have heard about on this thread. The one about giving automatic weapons to the Confederates does look good.

If you could define what you like, the kind of books you enjoy, and other things about you the others have asked would help all to better answer your question.

Without knowing your age or what kind of Science Fiction you maybe interested in (space travel, medical, time travel, alternate universe, super heroes, comedic science fiction, science-fantasy, TV show tie-in) I can't give a comprehensive list now, but I could suggest a more substantial list of authors and books in a followup post if you'd like.

**Based on the criteria that you might be a young adult reader, try out these (and some of these are older books that still work today):

Anything from Alan E. Nourse, especially "Trouble On Titan", "Scavengers In Space", and "Star Surgeon".

ALTERNATE UNIVERSE: John Wyndham -- "Chocky", "Day Of The Triffids" & "The Chrysalids".

HUMOROUS: Terry Pratchett -- "Only You Can Save Mankind", Harry Harrison -- "The Stainless Steel Rat". Robert Asprin -- "Another Fine Myth".

TIME TRAVEL: Terry Pratchett -- "Johnny & The Bomb". Poul anderson -- "Time Patrolman".

SPACE TRAVEL: Arthur C. Clarke -- "The Sands Of Mars", "Islands In the Sky", "2001: A Space Odyssey". Andre Norton -- "Exiles Of The Stars" & "The Zero Stone". Donald A. Wolheim -- "The Secret Of Saturn's Rings".

SCIENCE FANTASY: Anne McCaffrey -- "Dragonsong", Mercedes Lackey -- "Arrow's Flight".

Movie/TV Tie-in: STAR TREK -- "The Wounded Sky" by Diane Duane, "Federation" -- Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens, "Final Frontier" -- Diane Carey.
BABYLON 5 -- "Dark Genesis: The Birth of the Psi Corps" by J. Gregory Keyes (first in the Psi-Corp Trilogy). STAR WARS -- The whole "New Jedi Order" series.

One Percent of Federal Funding For Space: America CAN Afford it!! LEO is a Prison -- It's time for a JAILBREAK!!

In that case, try some of the classics of the genre.

The Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov and The Dune Trilogy by Frank Herbert are probably good starting points. Also try some of Larry Niven's books such as Ringworld.

Have a look also at the "SciFi books you've just read" thread on this forum. A lot of us have been discussing books and commenting on them as we read them.

Welcome to SDC!

The only advice I can give you is from personal experience. I have never used a Zhummell, but I do own a Celestron, and I can say that I have been pleased with it for many years now.

Techies: We do it in the dark.

"Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour.
