Thank you for this, Stars. A nice treat. Interesting also to note how intense Shatner was all the time, which raised Kirk's level of importance. Spock of course was so cool. McCoy was the perfect counterpoint to both. As we said back in the early '70s, "Keep on Trekkin'!" :) Oh, there were some clips from the gunfight at O.K. Corral show. I saw an interview with Star Trek photographer Jerry Finnerman on Youtube recently, part of an oral history series, and he cited that episode as some of his best work, in regards to the blood-red sky, something I had missed after decades, but on watching that one again it's really eerie. :?

I just watched that episode a couple of nights ago (I got the enhanced version DVD collection of the 3rd season for Mother's Day). That would be tricky to get the lighting right with everything bathed in red. Like you, I hadn't recognized that aspect of the episode until reading your post.

Former Trek producer/writer Gene **** wrote that one under a pen name, as his contract with Universal's It Takes a Thief precluded him from using his real name when writing for other shows. He also wrote the worst, "Spock's Brain". Go figure. Jerry Fielding composed an interesting score for "Spectre of the Gun", next to none of which was ever used again. That was the first one filmed for the third year and the network didn't know what to make of it so they aired it at Halloween! Note the famous Kirk drop-kick the bad guy at the end. If you really want good behind-the-scenes stuff get a copy of Inside Star Trek by former co-producer Robert Justman and former Desilu honcho Herb Solow.

Er . . .

Better dead, than bred ??

(referring to what happened to Trip on ST: Enterprise in alien holographic chamber).
